~~~~~Naeun
Sitting here, waiting for Haerin to come out of the dressing room, I can't help but think about the past 7 years. All the moments she needed me to be a substitute mother, or her best friend... I would go back and do them all again. A piece of me feels completely broken that she will not need me anymore. I only want her to be happy, and I know Jeongguk will do everything in his power to keep her that way, but I will miss sharing a home and parenting duties with her.
When the curtain opens, and she steps onto the platform, I gasp. She looks like an absolute angel in this dress.
I feel the tears as they escape, but I smile at her to let her know it's a gorgeous dress
I feel the tears as they escape, but I smile at her to let her know it's a gorgeous dress.
"Haerin-ah... There has never been a more beautiful bride... You look like a princess... Jeongguk will love this!"
"You don't think it's too much? Should I look for something more simple?"
"What? Why would you? It's your wedding day!"
"But it's just going to be a simple ceremony... Maybe this is too much..."
"Choi Haerin... You listen to me right now... This.is.the.dress!! You could get married in a dump, and you would still have to wear this... Trust me!"
When she giggles at my enthusiasm, I know she is ready to listen. She continues to check her reflection, and admire the way it fits her curves. I only hope I'll look half as good on my wedding day.
"I invited my mother Unnie... To the wedding..."
I'm shocked that she decided to give her another chance, but I smile anyway. Haerin needs to do what feels right, and I have to accept that sometimes she's going to make decisions that I might not understand. Mrs. Choi is not my mother, but she had been someone who gave me a job when my own parents died. She hired me with no experience because I was young enough to identify with her daughter.
The gratitude I had, carried me for years as I watched Haerin grow. The problem I always had, stemmed from when I saw how lonely the girl was. In the end I was bitter towards the Chois because I realized they paid me to parent their child, who only wanted their love. I was then thrown out for doing my job, and couldn't find work. The best gift was always Haerin though...
"I'm happy for you Haerin-ah... I hope that you'll be happy, and if your Mom helps with that, I'm glad."
I try to keep the bitterness at bay, but I know she could hear it. Before she could say anything, the waiter came with our food, and we settle into focusing on our meal.
"Unnie?"
"Yes?"
"Thank you... I don't know if I've ever told you how much everything you've done for me over the years has made such a difference. I wouldn't be here if it weren't for you. Thank you for not letting me give up... I love you Naeun Unnie."
