Chapter 4

The sun sets and its pinkish orange light reflects in the windows of the many houses so that the city appears warm and welcoming.

'Beautiful...', you stare in awe.

The streets themselves are almost empty as most people already returned to their houses.

Rosa leaves its place beside you and inspects the different things around you like the flower pots and the empty stands.

'Hey! Wait for me!' You follow the ghost-like creature.

Behind a group of wooden boxes, you find your friend alongside a small chest.

'Do you have special instincts for finding chests or were it just chances that you found a treasure? Sit down in my left hand for option one or in my right hand for option two.'

The floating ball seems to think for a moment but decides to sit down in your right hand.

'It would have been too good to be true...'

You reach out for the chest but then you hesitate.

'...Is it even legal to open chests that are inside cities? What if all the treasures you can find in the game belong to somebody? It feels so natural to open every chest you find in a game, but if you are actually in that game it feels so wrong...'

Rosa pokes your cheek.

'Hm? What's wrong?'

'The first time I see someone brood in front of a treasure chest. Is something wrong with it?'

Out of shock you fall over and hit the ground. You look up and see a one-eyed man with an amused expression on his face.

Recognizing him as Kaeya you try not to stare for too long.

'I still haven't gotten used to this fever dream, haven't I?'

'Ah, no there is nothing wrong with it, I think. I was just wondering if it is legal to open random chests here in Mondstadt.', you explain.

'Then I have great news for you: It is! From what kind of sad place do you come from that you have to ask this yourself?'

'...From far, far away. You probably don't know that place.', you avoid answering with the whole truth.

He offers you his hand with a charming smile which you gratefully accept. Since your legs are a bit shaky from the previous shock your foot slips and you reunite with the ground next to Kaeya's feet.

'Great (Y/N). Today you're not just a clown but the whole circus. If every first impression ends up as weird as the ones I had until now, I will spend the rest of my life in solitude.'

The cryo-vision user gets down to your level and helps you to sit down upright. You wait for him to help you stand up to avoid another accident but instead the male's face comes dangerously close to yours.

Your cheeks heat up at the closeness.

'No, you don't smell like alcohol. Unlucky day?', Kaeya seems to think for a moment but then moves a bit away from you.

You chuckle. 'Unlucky day is an understatement. As if god decided to throw dices to determine my current day.'

Rosa moves next to your head and pats your head with its ears. You sigh.

'Ah yes, that's my friend Rosa and my name is (Y/N). Nice to meet you.'

Kaeya takes your hands and pulls you up. 'And my name is Kaeya, member of the Knights of Favonius.' This time you don't fall.

'So, what is the reason for you to come to Mondstadt in the first place?', the blue-haired male examines your clothes. 'I doubt that people travel in sleepwear.'

'That's part of the unlucky day. While traveling, I was robbed of almost everything.'

The knight scrutinizes you for a moment.

'Is something... wrong?' Because of Kaeya's intense starring you get more and more nervous.

The male shakes his head. 'No, no. I was just checking if you're a bad person or not. The result of my examination is that you're far from dangerous and quite beautiful.'

'Was the last part necessary? At least I am getting better at lying. Yay.'

'Anyways, since you don't have any belongings anymore, why don't you come with me and let the Knights of Favonius help you?', the male offers you his hand.

You take his hand and so does Rosa with its ears.

'Well then, follow me.'
