Chapter 40: Ingrid

Alex POV

We are on our way back to Pentagon city with  smile plastered in my face. I'm so happy and excited that another ability user will be joining our family. Paris will be one of the most important member in constructing the whole base. We need to enclose the whole city with high walls and clean up the inside. Without contruction machines and materials, it will take years to complete it. But with Paris, everything will be done easier!

"I think these are enough" tukoy ko sa naipon naming crystals from tier 2 zombies.

Mike stared at me with complicated eyes. "What?" Tanong ko dito.

"W-Wala..." Sagot nito at pumasok ng sasakyan. Napatingin ako kay Lyka na nakangisi.

"Anyare dun?"

She rolled her eyes at me. "Can you not smile while killing? Mukha kang serial killer!"

Ako naman ang nag roll eyes.

"Whatever. Let's go"  sagot ko nalang tapos ay pumasok na ng sasakyan. Yung dalawang bata mukhang nakatulog na rin.

"Alex, malayo pa ba tayo?" Tanong ni Paris. Bakas sa mukha nito ang kaba at takot sa mukha. Siguro dahil sa daming zombies sa labas.

"Malapit na. Pero yung base ay nasa tuktok ng bundok kaya medyo matagal papunta sa taas. Pero safe na sa lugar na yon"

Tumango ito at ngumiti. "You look amazing while fighting out there"

Napataas ako ng kilay, at sinulyapan si Kuya Mike na nag dadrive. "Really? Hindi ka natatakot sa akin?"

Napailing iling ito at excited na nakatingin sa akin. "No! You look so cool!! , Isa pa, you are not killing people but monsters kaya wala akong dapat ikatakot"

Napangisi ako at umayon dito. Kahit ako bumibilib sa sarili ko ibang tao pa kaya? Hahaha!

"Do you want to be like us?" Pagkatapos ay tanong ko ng seryoso. Agad naman itong napatigil ng may katagalan bago bumuntong hininga.

"Gusto ko..." sagot niya at napatingin sa dalawang batang natutulog. "But i can't leave them"

I agreed in my heart.

"It's okay. You can stay with them~ we will protect you" sabi ko at napatingin sya sa akin.

"Don't make promises like that. You are not a hero to make everyone safe. You can't protect everyone" she answered while frowning.

I smiled at her and said. "Don't get me wrong. Wala rin naman akong balak na iligtas at tulungan ang lahat. I'm not stupid to risk my life to make everyone safe"

Paris looked at me with confusion. "Then what are you doing now? You don't know us.  But you travel and fought with those monsters to save me.. Why?"

She looked at me with gratefulness and confusion. I also felt another pair of cold eyes looking at me, like he's waiting for me to answer.

"The truth is, i have my own selfish reason. Do you think i save them and let them live without doing anything? It's too fake kung sasabihin kong gusto ko lang tumulong ng walang kapalit" i slowly said it while looking at her playfully.

She looked stunned and stare at me like she wanna know what i'm thinking.

"Do you know, those people that we saved are working for me to build my base. I feed them, they work for me. It's mutual benefits between us. If they don't work, they can leave or go out to find their own food. I can't feed them forever. Even the richest countries can't feed their own people, ako pa kaya?"
