Ch. 13
I keep walking. I feel sorry for leaving Sil, but I just needed to get my mind straight. And see some friends.
What have I gotten myself into?
I see the sign that indicates its the edge of the city-just a couple more minutes and I'll be in my old city. I can't wait to see my friends. Jace, Lyla, Grace, and Jake all accepted me when I was all alone.
|~<Flashback>~|
I walk into the classroom by myself. Again. For the 100th time in a row. Or so it seems.
I walk to my seat and ignore all the other kids around me. They talk about getting a Ds or how their older siblings have phones and stuff. I'm an only child. I can't get any of that stuff.
I see a group of kids, talking about unicorns and dragons. My kind of people!
I stand and walk over-we have some time before class starts, right? Anyways, I walk over and start talking to them.
"H-hi, I'm K-Katie," I stammer. They look at me like I'm already a friend.
"I'm Jace!"
"Grace, nice to meet you!"
"Lyla, why did you stutter? Are you shy?"
"Hi, I'm Jake."
I smile and ignore Lyla's question. The teacher walks in and I have to walk back to my seat-but not before saying by to my new friends.
|~<End of Flashback>~|
I smile. I love all of my memories. Beautiful if you ask me.
I finally reach my old town and smile wider. I start to see my old house and I start sprinting. I reach it and look inside the empty house-its been to long. I recognize the living room, which now looks devoid of life. It's almost saddening. I never thought I'd be able to see it again.
"Hello, may I help you? That place has been sold, so no one can buy it, if that's what you're trying to do," I hear a girly voice say behind me. I turn and look to see the woman who's supposed to be selling our house and sending us the money. I smile, hoping she doesn't remember me.
"Oh, sorry! It's just such a nice house," I respond while walking towards her. She smiles back.
"I know-it didn't take long to sell. I was just saying that because I already sent to money to the previous owners, and I can't get it back."
"It's okay, I was just looking. Thanks!"
"Anytime!"
We part ways and I walk towards Lyla's house. She lives 5 minutes away, so I'm fine. What will she think when she sees me? What will she say? I hope she doesn't freak out.
I finally reach her house and knock. My nerves are working up, and I know I won't be able to stay serious around her.
"Hello, may I-Oh!!! Katie!!! What are you doing here? And where's your parents?" Lyla's mom answers. I smile.
"Oh, my parents are busy in town. Mind if I come in and visit Lyla?"
"Sure! She's right upstairs in her room."
I walk in and turn left towards the stairs. I look over into the living room to see Lyla's dog Munchie. She runs towards me, wagging her tail happily. I pat her head and she follows me up the steps. I knock on Lyla's door.
I hear a muffled sound come from it. My eyebrows furrow in confusion-why was it muffled?
I hear a familiar voice on the other side of the door. "You've met with a terrible fate, haven't you?"
