chapter ten | truth or dare

it was the next day and i just remembered what happened last night. newt made me feel angry, like what he was saying up until before he told me he didn't want me to be a runner, wasn't true. like i'm shit, like i don't and never will deserve to be here. i wanted to cross off all my thoughts and go on with my day, but i didn't have the motivation. that was until the someone came into my hut.

as soon as i saw him, i felt kinda bad, i was cold to him yesterday and i-. my thoughts were cut off.

'shit, i forgot about running' i thought. he knew what i was thinking.

"minho, i feel like klunk, can i have the day off?" i asked sweetly.

"yeah sure," he said.

"also, i'm sorry for lashing out on you like that yesterday," i said to him.

"don't worry about it bestie, i'll let alby know your gonna be a medjack for today," he said, i nodded and he walked out, leaving me to get ready for the day. i finished getting ready and walked out of my hut. i could feel like eyes were on me. and who's eyes? newt's. i looked at him and he quickly looked away. scoffing, i walked towards the medjack hut.

EIGHT HOURS LATER

today was okay. i still feel like klunk though. i don't think anyone, not even minho or chuck, could make me feel better. i just wanted to be alone right now and isolate myself from everyone for a little bit.

after my shift was over, it was about four o clock. i walked towards my hut and laid down on my hammock. after about five minutes, i heard a knock on the door.

"come in," i said, in a low voice, wanting whoever was coming in, to hurry the hell up.

'please don't be newt, please don't be newt, please don't be newt'

those words repeated in my head about ten times. i looked at the door and thomas was there.

"what are you doin' here?" i asked, bitterly.

"look, i know you're annoyed at me-" he began.

"annoyed is an understatement," i said, coldly.

"okay, i know you probably wanna kill me right now, but hear me out," i sighed and nodded. he sat down on the wooded chair in the corner, opposite me.
"i've been a dick" he started. i nodded in agreement and he continued.
"i have hope, i do, it's just people here have been here for a long ass time and everyone else apart from you is loosing hope," he said.

"i'm starting to loose hope too," i said, clearly getting upset.

"see, it happens in this place, it makes you feel unworthy and useless, everyone here feels like that sometimes, even me, even minho," he said.
"what i said in the hole, it came out and sometimes people say things that suddenly come out," he finished and took a deep breath.

"you're right," i said, ashamed at my actions.

"thank you," thomas said and pulled me into a tight hug.

after we both pulled out of the hug, he chuckled.

"even what newt said earlier to me came out by accident," thomas said then quickly covered his mouth with his hand in shamefulness and realisation.

"what? what did newt say earlier?" i asked him. he rapidly shook his head lots of times and began walking out.
"wait! what did he say?!" i asked, demanding for answers. he jogged out and left me curious as to what newt said.

TIME SKIP

it was dinner time and i could not stop thinking about what thomas said earlier in my hut.

"even what newt said earlier to me came out by accident"
