Amara's POV

Inside the house was a stairwell that lead to the basement. From there, a tunnel was connected, giving a direct path toward my house, or Mason's now.

That is where we were at now, following the dark tunnel.

"Why do we always end up in damp dark spaces?" Jack asked, clearly disgusted with the dirty tunnel.

"The perks of being in the mafia." I said, giving him a wide smile as he grimaced at the scurrying spiders.

The tunnel wasn't very long. The last I remember, we should reach the end in twenty minutes.

There were two sections in the lower half of my house: one being the cells, and the other being the entrance to the tunnel.

Like I said before, no one knows about the tunnel except my dad and I. I just hope Mason hasn't found it yet.

"Fuck, fuck, fuck!" I heard Jack yell from behind me, and I watched as two rats ran along the floor beside his feet.

"Will you quiet down," I whispered, "someone will hear you."

He gave me a dirty look, his eyes filled with fear from the rats and anger from my comment.

"I didn't say that to you last night, did I?"

I felt my body instantly freeze, a rush of embarrassment rising to my cheeks.

"Yeah, that's right. We heard everything last night," he smirked at me, watching as my mouth opened and closed.

"Oh shut up," I finally said, all the boys laughing at me as I jogged ahead.

We reached the end, a ladder sitting on the tunnel wall in front of us.

"Where does this lead to again?" Derek asked beside me, looking up towards the ladder entrance.

"Hopefully the secret part of the basement." I said, "I haven't been down here in years."

"Looks like we're about to find out what's on the other side," Alec said, grabbing onto the ladder and hoisting himself up.

We followed behind him, the ladder creaking as we made our way up to the top.

The trap door creaked as it opened, echoing off the walls as Alec tried to lightly put it against the concrete ground.

"Looks like everything is the same," I said, reaching the top.

But the last step was slippery, and once I put my foot on the edge, it slipped out.

I didn't fall back, but a hand on my thigh stopped me from moving any further, and I felt my breath hitch.

Luca's fingers was spread across my leg, holding me up so that way I don't fall.

"Thank you," I breathed out. He smirked from the heat at my cheeks, giving me a nod. He gave me a push, helping me up through the hole.

I brushed myself off, watching as the rest of the boys climbed through.

"If everything is the same, the door should be not far from here," Derek said to us as he got out from the hole. "We have to be careful, guards could be lurking outside that door."

We all nodded. I lead the group towards where the door usually was, the sounds of our shoes lightly bouncing off the concrete walls.

"It's here," I let out a sigh of relief.

I put my ear against the door, searching for any sounds on the other side. But I heard nothing, so I gave them a nod, pulling it open.

A squeak came from the hinges and I winced, hoping no one could hear the opening door.

I peaked through, looking in the familiar basement of my own home. A home I wouldn't keep for long.

"The coast is clear," I said, walking through.

We followed the hallway, guns in hand, and our ears open for any movement.

A sound echoed from the other side, and we quickly ran into a room.

It sounded like keys clattering together, and we saw the guard walk past the door, their shadow showing underneath the room's door.

I held my breath, hoping they couldn't hear my heavy breathing. I felt a warm hand against mine, and started to calm down, Luca's hand grasping onto mine.

The sound trailed off in the distance, and Derek opened up the door, telling us no one was there anymore

We made move down the hallway again, reaching the steps towards the main part of the house.

It didn't take us long to reach the top, the moonlight shining through the windows as we climbed the last step.

"Well, well, well." I voice said from beside us.

Three guards stood beside the railing of the staircase, guns pointed toward us.

"Mason will love this," one of them chuckled, "Get her, and kill the rest."
