It had been a year since I became a handmaid for the Scouts. In a year's time so much had changed: some changes were welcomed while most I wish never happened.
I sat in the back of a carriage that Hange insisted I take instead of my usual spot in a wagon. It was the first time I had ever been in a carriage. The ride was so much smoother than a wagon which meant it was the perfect time to finish Sasha's apron, made from my Opa's finest orange fabric.
We were all to head to the coast; there was a Marleyan navy ship that was to be landing. I don't know why I had to go but Hange wanted me to. They said it would be a perfect opportunity for me to finally see the ocean.
Once we got there, Levi told me I couldn't stay close, which in my opinion, was bullshit. But I did as I was told and went to the safe spot Levi already picked out for me. Of course, I had to ride a horse there, and let's just say, I'm not that great at riding them.
It was nightfall and I stood several feet away on top of some jagged rocks, while the waves swayed in and out onto the sand, feeling the mist of the sea spraying onto my face. It smelt funny: salty and fishy at the same time.
I kept my eyes on the water many feet away from me, where I saw Eren's titan stand. I guess the mission was a success: the scouts got hold of the Marleyan navy ship.
Impressive, to say the least.
I let out a sigh and stretched, looking up at the stars above me. I thought back to mine and Levi's kiss in his office six months ago, his words ringing in my head as if he just said them the day before
"I just want to see you truly happy again"
I shook my head as if trying to shake out the words yet they still stayed. I didn't want to admit it, I wasn't going to admit it.
After an hour or so, I got very bored. I noticed Eren was leaving his titan form and I figured that was a perfect time to head back. I walked down the rocks, to the sand where the horse stood and grabbed onto its reigns. For both of our sake, I wasn't going to ride it.
We walked back until I saw the makeshift stables that were made from tents. I walked back to the grassy hill and tied my horse to the stable. I patted its mane as a "thank you", mainly for it being a walking buddy than a riding one.
Before I could walk too far away, a Scout ran up to me with a note, I opened it to see it was from Levi stating he needed me to set up tea for four at Hange's tent. I let out a groan, not wanting to work. Yet, there I was, doing exactly as Levi requested. But when I walked into the tent, I saw another note, again from Levi, bolding stating for me to get out.
I guess I wasn't allowed to hear what was to be said at this little tea party. Fine by me, I wanted to walk along the beach anyway.
After I was finished, I hurried back to the beach, taking off my shoes and walking along the sand bar. I loved the way the water felt: cold and refreshing. I wanted to take a swim but the possibility of someone catching me was high. I didn't need anyone to see me naked.
I walked further along, seeing the tiny creatures that crawled onto the sand. I decided at that point I wanted to grab one. I watched were these clawed creatures scurried and followed them. I crouched down and swiftly grabbed one as it passed.
It was small but very fierce, trying to pinch my fingers with its claws but the way I held it prevented it from doing so.
As I admired the little thing, I heard voices from above, seeing the group standing on the rocky hill behind me
"Mariana!" I heard Connie call "Why are you so close!? You could get hurt!"
"How about you mind your business!" I fussed, standing back up with the tiny clawed thing in my hand
