Pain

Pain. Pain was all she felt as she laid there in her bed, the life sucked out of her.

She could barely open her eyes as they were sensitive to even the little light that entered her room, the small girl holding her blankets tighter to her body.

She felt weak and useless, and hated it so much. Out of everyone in the world, why me? Why must I be the one suffering?

She could hear the laughter coming from outside her window, and wished she had asked the servant to close it. Her brother's voice was loud and clear, his giggles being so distinctive, that even in her sick and weakened state, she could distinguish it.

I just want it to end. I just want all this pain and suffering to end.

She continued to lie in bed, willing herself to sleep. It was a long and tiring process, and the fact that her body refused to cooperate only made it a million times worse.

When her body finally decided to listen, the small girl was about to drift off to sleep, the door to her room burst open, and a bright young boy came running in.

"Hey, check out what I learned in training today." He said with a smile, entering his sister's room. She lay weakly in her bed with the blankets up to her chin, the colour drained from her face.

"I don't care, Mark." She said in barely a whisper. Mark ignored her though, still moving closer to show her.

When she covered her head with the blanket to avoid her brother, Mark couldn't help but pout, quickly jumping onto his sister's bed. He tugged the blanket down, forcing her to reveal her face again, much to his sister's horror.

Mark's face immediately changed as he stared at his sister up close, instantly noticing the changes in her body. There were dark eye circles under her eyes, her cheekbones becoming prominent despite her young age, and her hair was thinning.

"Please, just go away, Mark." She begged, taking her blanket back.

Mark didn't want to but their mother had come in, checking up on her daughter. She saw her older child sitting on the bed, and immediately decided to take action.

"Mark, can you come out here?" The Queen asked.

Mark gave her one more look, the girl rolling so her back was towards him. He let out a deep sigh, heading out into the halls with his mother

Once Mark was gone, she opened her eyes again, staring at the black wall in front of her.

I just want the pain to end. Please. Is that too much to ask for?

...

Minsun breathed heavily as she sat up in her bed, eyes opened wide. It was just a dream. It was just a bad dream.

She reached up to her neck, fingers lightly brushing the metal as it gave her the energy she needed.

"It felt so real though." Minsun mumbled to herself, removing her hands to stare at them in front of her. She clenched them in fists a few times, taking a moment to adjust to her healthy teenage body.

You're sixteen, not a child. You're perfectly healthy, you're not stuck in a sick body.

Minsun inhaled deeply before closing her eyes, trying her best to recall the image of her surroundings and the little boy in her dream. When she did, she couldn't help but gasp in horror, getting out of bed and straight to the halls of the castle.

It can't be, Minsun thought to herself as she twisted and turned, much to the surprise of the servants who were on the night shift, cleaning up. She ignored them though, determined to get to her destination. But then again, it was exactly like how dad described it. The little boy looked so similar too, there's no way that it couldn't be him.

"Dad!" Minsun called out, waking her parents up as she entered their room. Her mother was the first person to get up, staring at her daughter.

"Minsun, is something wrong?" Jisun asked, rubbing her eyes as she removed herself from her husband, sitting up.

Minsun was normally a respectful girl, never ignoring her mother. Right now though, she desperately needed to talk to her father, before her memory betrayed her.

"Dad, wake up, please?" Minsun begged, running to her father's side and shaking him harshly. Jisun stared at her daughter in confusion, but didn't question it, allowing Minsun to wake Mark up.

"Jisun, what's going on?" Mark mumbled groggily. Minsun sighed, giving her father one more harsh shove before he realized she was there. "Minsun? What are you doing here? What time is it?"

"Dad, I saw her memory." Minsun said but Mark only returned a look of confusion. "I saw Grace's memory."

At the mention of his sister's name, Mark's eyes instantly turned as black as the night, his irises and the whites of his eyes disappearing. Minsun couldn't help but step back, shivering in fear.

"Minsun, that's not possible. Grace is dead."
