"Tamara!"

She continued her attempt to punch me with her legs kicking the air. Her breathing was heavy and sweat trickled down her forehead.

"Tamara! It's me, Kristine!!", I yelled louder and her eyes shot open. Her breathing started to return to normal once she saw me and I caressed the side of her head to maintain her now calm state. "You're alright."

"Kristine", she breathed out. I pulled her into a gentle hug. My hand moved up and down her back in an attempt to soothe her.

"It's me. It was just a nightmare", I assured softly and she hugged me tighter.

"Thank you", she whispered.

"Always here for you."

She laid back down in bed and I took a damp cold cloth from her bathroom. I started to dab it on her forehead to cool her down a bit.

"You can go, I'll be fine", she said.

I looked at her worriedly. "You sure? I can st -"

"Go, Kristine. I'll be fine." She gave me a reassuring smile and I sighed.

I nodded and kept the cloth away before walking towards her room door. I turned to look at her and gave her a soft smile.

"If you need anything -"

"I know." She smiled and I returned it before stepping out of her room.

Leaning my body against her room door, I placed my head in my hands and sighed heavily.

There was a reason why people would avoid the three of us. Each of us was troubled and wore a mysterious aura as if it were a cloak. My sisters are always there for me since the adoption, I try to do the same for them.

Tamara went through something that no child should. The memory haunts her every day and the nightmare takes over in her sleep. The day Tamara and I got close, I walked into her room because I heard screaming. I held her hand that night and stayed with her. Since then, she's thought of me as her safe home. She told me that with me, she'll always feel safe.

She doesn't know that since I got the keycard to her room, on most nights I would secretly enter to check on her. I did that tonight and luckily I did. Fortunately, I never get caught leaving my room.
