Story:
Bai Luoyin is a highschooler who lives with his father & his grandparents. Both of his grandparents needs monthly medical support. That's why Bai Luoyin's family living quite poorly. His mother leaves the family since he was little. Bai Luoyin is a good grade student with bad habit. He always late and most of the day sleeping on his desk. But even though sleeping, when the teacher called and ask question, he can answer just fine.
Gu Hai is the only son of a military officer. His mother passed away in an accident. Since then his relationship with his father keep getting worse and culminated when his father wants to remarry. Their argument result in Gu Hai leaving the house to live by himself. Gu Hai also changing school and it is Bai Luoyin's high school.
Gu Hai & Bai Luoyin are in the same class. Their first impressions of each other weren't good. BLY annoyed at how GH wrote his name stylistically but hard to read. GH annoyed at BLY who is quite rude but he also feel intrigued at how BLY just slump on his desk for hours but still able to answer the teacher. Since then Gu Hai unconciously can't his eyes off BLY.
The novel tell love story between Gu Hai and Bai Luoyin starting from foes to a bickering couple, withstanding 8 years of separation, suffering and surviving hardships together.
WARNING: This is heavy BL novel which means there are plenty of 18+ rated scene.
What I Like:
I read this novel after I watch the drama Addicted. I'm not satisfied with how they end the drama. (PS: they didn't mean to end it, the drama was banned and not allowed to continue so it was just stopped). So I read because I'm curious about how the story goes. I finally understand why fans hard to move on. Even after reading the novel, my brain can't differentiate GH & BLY in the novel from the two actors: Huang Jingyu & Xu Weizhou.
I love Gu Hai & Bai Luoyin. Gu Hai a rough, mischievous teen who actually quite perceptive. Bai Luoyin is one lazy & angry teen who is hard on the outside but actually softie. I just love them that's why I read the novel twice already.
Bai Hanqi, BLY's father is a lovable character. The house of Bai in their poor condition really warmed up to Gu Hai. I'm happy GH have a period to feel what it's like to have a home.
Yang Meng is one interesting character. He often lose filter between his mouth & his brain so he just say whatever cross his mind. Secrets are spilled that way. I hope he got a good life. I'll read the spinoff after this.
In Book 1 GH & BLY are teens. In Book 2 they are mid 20s adults. In book 2 there are scenes about flying which honestly went over my head. The translators were very nice. They try to explain things in footnote.
It's not explicitly stated but I'm glad after their initial stumble at sex, they practice safe sex. The novel just stated one day somebody found one big box of condoms & various lubes in their bedroom.
SPOILER
I'm happy we got a wedding. The novel end on a very sweet note. The 4 chapters of epilogue is about their after wedding ceremony which honestly over the top (and fan service) in my opinion. Nevertheless it's lovely to have one.
What I Don't Like:
The story bring out the extreme from it's characters. Sometimes the situation is overly dramatic that probably impossible to happen in real life. Both Gu Hai & Bai Luo Yin are emotional personality who could go from 0 to 60 in a second. When they start fighting, it'll end up in fist fight or sex.
I don't like the whole situation between Gu Hai's cousin & BLY's commander. When I reread the novel I skip those chapters.
There's a rape scene which I really hate (why the author add that). So I'll say it once again the characters' actions could be extreme.
The novel make military base seems like the family playground.
The rated scenes feels like filler & fan service. On my first read, they make me impatient.
This novel is not a masterpiece but you'll get ADDICTED to it.
