Chapter Seven:
Making a Difference

A LIGHT KNOCK on her office door the following morning made Miss Jenn jump slightly, and she looked over at Lucy with a panicked expression.

"Sorry, didn't mean to scare you. Did Gina tell you I wanted to talk to you this morning?" Lucy asked gently.

"Yes, yes, she did. That's quite alright, Lucy. Come on in, you can shut the door behind you," Miss Jenn motioned her inside. Lucy stepped in and closed the door behind her. "Did you make any progress with Ricky?"

"He's still in the show," Lucy informed her. Miss Jenn sighed of relief. "I made him play Disney Just Dance with me to prove to him that he could actually do the dances, and then talked with him about everything. He's getting better at the choreography for the show, too. We spent most of last night working on that."

"Lucy, you are a gem. Thank you so much. Now do you think you could help them work on their chemistry?" Miss Jenn asked hopefully. Lucy smiled and shook her head at her teacher.

"You can't force chemistry, Miss Jenn. What Ricky and Nini need is to work through their problems, and become friends again, but Nini is also with Ej, so I'm not gonna push it. I don't wanna upset Ej," Lucy explained, shrugging apologetically.

"Don't take this the wrong way, but if you don't want to upset EJ, why help Ricky keep his part? Ej would have been lead then," Miss Jenn asked curiously. She wanted to learn a little more about Lucy and her connections to the cast so far, as she had noticed that Lucy had a way of connecting everyone in one way or another.

"Ej and I are going on nine shows together," Lucy told Miss Jenn, "and seven out of those nine he has been one of the main leads. We're graduating this year, and the theater department needs a leading man for at least next year's shows, and it can't be Ej. I think that's Ricky. I'm not doing this to hurt Ej. I care about him a lot, and we've been friends forever, but other people need the chance to shine."

Miss Jenn smiled at her warmly and nodded, "That's very sweet of you, Lucy. Thank you for all you've done for this show so far."

"Of course, Miss Jenn. If you need me to do anything else, just let me know, I'm happy to help. Have a good day," Lucy smiled back. She rose from her chair and left the room without another word.

Lucy was walking through the halls when suddenly someone grabbed her hand and started dragging her with them. She let out a small yelp from the sudden movement and stopped when the person took her to the auditorium and turned to face her.

"That was not very nice of you! Ej! Why did you drag me all the way here?!" Lucy scolded him with a huff.

"Why are you helping Ricky? I had the lead, Lucy!" Ej pouted, crossing his arms annoyedly.

"Ej," Lucy breathed out, "I'm not doing this for the reasons you think."

"Really? Cause it seems like you're trying to get Ricky and Nini—"

"I am not trying to get them back together, for the love pete, Ej! Nini was devastated after Ricky! She's with you now, she's happy! That's all I want for her! I'm helping Ricky because we graduate this year and this theater department needs a male lead next year that's not you," Lucy clarified annoyedly, crossing her arms over her chest.
