Sunshine, (READ DESCRIPTION)

"Spring is coming to an end"

Everyone ended up sleeping on the way back to the school. Ryu knew to leave you alone when you walked right past him without saying a single word.

As everyone got off the bus, you noticed their red eyes and noses. "Remember to get lots of rest tonight. You all did very well." Our coach reassured, your eyes were glued to the floor. "Yes coach.." Everyone answered and went their own ways. On your way home, tears rolled down your face.

We were so close...

(Next day)

You spent your time studying during lunch, buzzes from your phone vibrated the table. Of course, it was Fuji and Maria wondering where you are.

"Studying for the final exams?"

You looked up to see Ryu turning his chair around to face you, "Yeah...why aren't you with the others?" You questioned while going back to your notebook. "Well for an idiot like you, I knew you wouldn't be successful studying by yourself." He snickers, you shot him a glare and pushed your notebook towards him. "Fine. if you know so much then go ahead and what I got wrong." You scoffed, he takes the notebook and clicks his red pen.

He circles a problem, "I'll do it one by one. So, for this one..."

The bell rings, signing that lunch is over. He stands up and smirks at you staring at your notebook in disbelief. You got 5 out of 10 questions wrong. And that was only from your notebook. "Told ya. Now you owe me a shortcake. Strawberry shortcake specifically." He teases, "Unbelievable.." You mumbled.

"Now hurry it up. We got athletics next."

"Hikari and Ryuji! Go put away the equipment."

You sighed and began carrying the boxes to Ryu who was standing in the equipment warehouse. He had the height and placed the boxes on the shelves.

"That's the last one." You said setting the box down, "God...It's so hot in here..especially in these gym uniforms." He groans and placed the last box up. "Let's get out of here-"

The door slams shut and you both immediately rush to it. "It's locked from the outside?" Ryu gulped and tried yanking on the handle, "No use..try calling someone?" He adds. You pulled out your phone and shook your head, "No signal. You?" He leans against the door. "Left it in my bag. There's no windows in here either...the walls are thick so I doubt anyone will hear us if we call for help."

You sat down on one of the mats and tried to think of ways to get out. Though the upcoming summer heat was distracting you. "It's so hot.." You mumbled and fanned yourself, "No windows and thick walls, what do you expect?" He says sitting down next to you. "How are you um...holding up..from yesterday?" You turned to him a little taken back, "Honestly, kind of disappointed in myself. But Naomi's sweets helped." You chuckled.

"Is that so? Well you guys have another chance..better work hard." He gently punches your shoulder with a small laugh. "Yeah yeah. Same goes for you. Don't you have a competition-" His groan interrupts you, "Please don't remind me...I've been practicing day and night." He takes off his glasses and rubs the bridge of his nose. "As long as you don't overwork yourself, then you'll do amazing." Your eyes grew heavy.

Am I falling asleep? Well that's reasonable, considering I got no sleep last night. You thought before dozing off.

(Ryu's POV)

While trying not to let the heat get to me, I felt something on my shoulder. I turned to see Hikari asleep. The sweat on her forehead and face were noticable.

We need to get out of here quick..

I gently moved her head onto my lap, she stays asleep as I grabbed her phone. "Still no service..." I muttered and looked down at her sleeping peacefully. I smiled softly and moved her hair out of her face. I gently blew on her face, trying to cool her down. After a few minutes of doing so, she smiles slightly. I leaned my head back and closed my eyes.

I'm so tired....

(Third person POV)

The doorknob aggressively shakes causing the boy's eyes to flutter open. "Oh gosh I hope they're okay."

The door swings open with a rush of cool air coming in. "Ryu! Hikari!" He blinks a few times, trying to comprehend what's happening. "Maria..?" Hikari mumbles in confusion and sits up, "It's after school hours. We thought you guys were skipping class until you didn't return...geez you're covered in sweat." She says wiping both of their faces with a cloth.

"Thank you so much Maria...we probably would've died here if you never found us." Ryu laughs lightly, she rolls her eyes and looks at Hikari. "So, you were laying in his lap?" She smirks, Hikari looks down at his legs and grows pink. "I don't remember that- happening..." She mutters trying to think back.

"Let's just get out of here. I feel gross covered in sweat." Ryu mumbles and walks out.

"I can't wait for the first term to be over... but then summer heat." Maria laughs as she helps Hikari up, "Don't forget, there's still club activities. So, your summer won't be too boring." The two smiled at each other and walked out of the warehouse. "You doing anything for summer?" Maria asks, "I believe I'm visiting my grandparents, doing summer homework, maybe catch up on shows, and that's it." She chuckles.

"You know what we should totally do?" Hikari turns to Maria a little curious, "Go to the beach!" She exclaims. Hikari looks away, feeling uninterested. "Aww come on! It'll be fun, don't you think?" Hikari knew that Maria didn't do well on quizzes and exams.

"How about...if you pass the final exams, then we can go. If you don't, then I get to stay home with my precious AC." She offered, holding her hand out. The girl smirked and shook it, "Deal." They keep eye contact before breaking out into laughter.

Continuing to walk, Maria looks up at the orange sky with a soft smile. "Spring is coming to an end already..."
