August third rolls by slowly for Nakano. She's been spending the entire day at home, refusing to leave the house until she has to return to the future. This past month has been hell for her, and everything before it even more so. But finally, she will no longer have to worry about Toman.

The whole day, she's been in her brother's room doing nothing but reflecting over her time in the past. It's been one of the most intense months of her life, and twelve years in the future, she's been trying to take down a mafia on her own for much longer. That's saying something.

Toman should no longer exist, so she should be free now. She can live her life... However she did before.

Now that she thinks about it, her adult life before she learned of Toman is actually pretty pathetic. Like her brother, she used to hop from one job to another, but after a few years of that, she started doing random freelance jobs.

She doesn't even have a place to live.

She can afford food and some clothes for herself and that's pretty much it. The thought never once occurred to her, but she's practically living on the streets. Practically, because the rooftops and shadows of alleys have been her home lately.

Her brother doesn't know this about her, either. As close as they are, she and her twin still live their separate lives. If everything they did in the past changed the future, and they saved all his friends, does that mean he'll be with them in their present?

Is she going to be alone again?

'No, it's not going to be like that!' Nakano shakes her head to get rid of the thought. 'How could you think such a thing, Nakano!?'

In the darkness of the room she's laying in, she's already by herself. Her brother left an hour or so ago to go to the festival with Hinata, Draken and Emma.

Imagine having a social life. She could never.

Social... She's been a lot more of that lately. She's been acquainted with her brother's friends and girlfriend, and made friends with the enemy.

Friends with the enemy.

Manjiro...

A character who she still can't figure out. She doesn't hate him to the point of wanting to murder him anymore, but she isn't quite sure if she likes him either. Maybe it's just her antisocialness mixing with serious trust issues.

She never wants to see him again, but on the other hand, she still wants to get to know him. Figure him out. It's a strange feeling for her, and she has no idea what to call it.

His signature closed eyed smile. She can't get it out of her head, even in the darkness. So small, yet so impactful. The day before, the last time she saw it, it felt different when looking at him.

She felt calm. Like everything was okay. The sort of feeling she felt whenever she was with him.

Flash.

He smiled one last time, as the light left his warm hazel eyes before they shut forever.

She winces as she forces that vision out of her head, as she feels a painful sting in her chest. The most painful memory that reoccurs the most. The one she wishes to forget. The one she tries to pretend that never happened, but fails every single time.

'If only you came home with me... Life wouldn't have been like this...'

Ding-dong~!

Nakano blinks once as the doorbell yanks her out of her mind space. She groans and flips over, burying her face in her pillow.

Ding-dong~! Bang-bang-bang!
