Dear Mum,
I'm sorry I won't be here to greet you when you get home. I'm afraid I have an errand to run, and it might take a while. But the hospital told me they were sending a live-in nurse with you for a few weeks, so it comforts me that you won't be alone.

Mum...I'll be honest. We need to talk. We need to have many talks, I think. But you might not be ready for a long time yet, and that's okay. I just want you to know that I'm here, and that I love you.

I've made pasta for dinner-it's in the fridge. Make sure you heat it up for at least twenty seconds, otherwise it won't be very nice.

Hope to see you soon,
Carter
