You cannot even begin
to comprehend what it took
for me to grow comfortable
inside my own skin.

You gaze at me,
enthralled,
enchanted,
as if i am this shiny new thing.

Why do you do that?
Why do you think it's okay
for you to put me on this pedestal
only for you to be disappointed
when your perception of me has been
altered by the reality of who
i actually am?

You're just like the rest_
Lifeless and empty,
another vessel waiting to be
filled by the parts of me
that i spill.

And once you've gotten what you want,
you'll leave with the door slightly
left open so you can gaze through the
crack to make sure I don't forget
what big of a hole you've left
in my chest...

Why do you do that?
Why do you think it's okay
for you to linger whilst I attempt
to heal what you have hindered?

Why do you think it's okay for
you to leave then come back
as if my heavy heart forgets?

Why do you do that?
Why do you come and go,
like summer and fall?
