Luella and Aidan sat side by side on the hospital bed, their legs dangling over the edge as they leaned against the pillows propped up behind them. The soft glow of the iPad illuminated their faces, casting flickering shadows across the dimly lit room.
Xander had been at the office for the past hour and was due to come back any moment
"They're so small and yellow" Luella laughed "They look weird" Aidan added
Luella glared at him "No, they're so cute"
Sadie's heart swelled with happiness as she watched her son finally find a friend he could connect with in the hospital. For weeks, Aidan had been confined to his hospital room, his illness isolating him from the outside world. But now, as she observed him laughing and playing with his newfound friend, a sense of relief washed over her.
Xander walked into the room and smiled taking a seat beside Sadie "I'm glad they're getting along"
Sadie nodded "He's been so bored here for the past how many weeks, I'm honestly happy you brought her here"
"I wasn't going to break my promise," he said "Princess, we need to get going" he spoke up to his sister
Luella looked at Xander and frowned. she wanted to stay a bit longer since she would probably go home and get bored "Do we need to?" she said
Xander nodded "Aidan also needs to rest, I'll bring you back here again"
Luella nodded and carefully got off the bed "I'll see you again Aidan" she waved at him and walked over to the door waiting for Xander
"Bye Luella" Aidan waved back with a smile on his face
"Alright, Aidan make sure to rest," Xander said standing up. Aidan nodded "I'll make sure"
Xander held his sister's hand and walked out of the room
"Aidan is super kind," Luella said as she gripped onto her brother's hand.
"Yes, he's a sensible boy unlike you who's naughty," he said as he picked his sister up and threw her over his shoulder
"Xander!" she mumbled into his shoulder
"Can't hear you princess" he teased as he tickled her sides
"Stop!" she giggled
Xander laughed and opened his car, placing his sister into her seat "Put your seat belt on"
Luella nodded and did her seatbelt "Done" she assured her brother "Also Xander?"
"Yes?" Xander replied as he pulled out of the car park "Can we get ice cream?"Luella asked
Xander didn't want to break his sister's heart especially at the mention of her mum "Sure, I'll take you"
