Another chapter? It's only been two days! Ah, well, I've wanted to do this for quite a while. I haven't done Cato in a while, so I decided to write la cute little fic about him! (Bet all the Cato lovers are gonna be praising me by now 😭)
I'm going for a female reader in this one, but just change the pronouns to your liking if you don't prefer the female pronouns. ❤️
Summary: Reader is very self-conscious and doesn't talk much about herself, she usually lets others speak about how their day went, what was going on in their mind, etc. She also has a knack of apologizing for things she hasn't done, in fear of being shouted at. Mainly because of neglect and other's annoyance. Since she becomes aware of a room's atmosphere, she senses when someone is in a bad mood and tends to avoid them. One day, Cato was stressed and in an annoyed mood because he needs to go on a Victory tour (yay, he stayed alive!) and the reader tries to avoid Cato.
My lord that was a long summary.
TW: Slight angst, mentions of emotional abuse, but I'll be trying to pour in as much fluff as I can.
Btw do you guys want cookies? I made some so they're available if you guys want them!

Dating Cato was a dream come true. An insanely attractive man with a slightly hot temper, though he never dared shout at you and treated you like a queen. Not to mention - a Victor of the Hunger Games. Though, you pushed those titles away and saw Cato for who he was, not who he was raised to be.
And although his strengths and his amazing personality was his upbringings, he also had his flaws. Such as the horrible mood swings he can face. They range from time to time, and they're usually minor, but the games had done enough to this poor boy. If anything, they made them worse.
You knew how Cato was prone to his mood swings, though they usually consisted of him sitting somewhere - usually staring at a window - and have an angry/sullen look on his face. He didn't say much at this time, and he ended up snapping at the normal person walking in. Other times, he'd be at the Academy doing some training of sorts, his mind clouded with endless thoughts and whatever is going on through his mind.
Normal people would try and coax him out of his mood or wait until he was ready to be social again. Not you.
If anything, you did your best to avoid him during those times. And you had a reason for that.
And no - it wasn't because of some shit excuse of an ex. Hell, Cato's the first person you've dated.
It was more of the people you've been around. Random strangers, old school friends, once in a while your parents tormented you over how much you said or because you were the closest person around to point the blame at. Ever since you were a child, you were always told to stop talking about yourself so often, or was taken the blame for something that you had no part in. Either that, or you could just tell if somebody wanted you to stop talking about whatever it was. The boredom on their face and the uninterested tone of their voices was enough to prove it. That, and people have indeed told you to stop talking, right in front of their faces.
"Can you shut up for a moment?" Was a popular sentence you became used to hearing. That, or yelling at you to stop talking and being an attention-seeker.
So you became extremely self-aware of how much you said. It was like those TikTok trends where people were only given a certain amount of words during the day. And if you ever felt like you said too much? You would stop talking mid sentence, and immediately send a wave of apologizes to the person you were talking to.
