Seren didn't say anything after that, but... I didn't either.

Maybe I could have. Maybe I could have tried to start a conversation with her. Maybe I could have asked her all the things I wanted to ask her, like why she's so sad all of the time, and why she didn't have any real friends. The problem, was that Seren had this force field around her, and I'm not even sure if she knew it was there.

It was like she put it there for one simple reason- to make sure that no one came close enough to her to find the real her. Not just the beautiful exterior that I'm sure her life revolves around, but who she was apart from that.

And, I'm sure one day someone would come along and break through that force field. But one thing is for sure, they wouldn't succeed unless she weakened it herself, first.

Whoever broke through eventually, well, they'd need to be someone strong. They'd need to be someone who was worth her weakening it for. I think we all knew, I wasn't that guy.

She was quiet beside me as we continued to watch the long game, which was almost over by now. I had no idea who was winning, and I didn't really care.

"Let'a hope we win," Cain said from beside me, leaving forwards past Trinity, "or the guys will be in a bad mood."

"Who's on the team again?" I asked him, causing Trinity to let out a giggle; I had no idea what was funny.

Though, Cain looked at me with a bewildered expression on his face, so apparently my question was odd.

"They all are," Olivia answered for him. "Noah, Jax, Tyler, Benji..."

"And Carter," Trinity finished for her. "Isn't that right, Seren?"

Trinity wiggled her eyebrows towards Seren, who only looked back at her with a blank expression on her face. She didn't blush, she didn't roll her eyes... it was almost like she hadn't even heard her.

"What's that have to do with Seren?" I asked, not understanding the knowing glances that were being passed around.

"It's nothing," Olivia giggled out, nudging Trinity in the ribs. "Carter just has a huge thing for Seren. He begs her to wear his jersey every game. I'm sure this year won't be any different."

Seren didn't add anything to the conversation, she simply turned her head back to the field, as if she was completely uninterested. I wondered if it bugged her the way they spoke about her, like she wasn't even there.

"Anyways," Cain spoke again, "if they don't win, they'll be in a shit mood tonight. Even at the lake house, they'll still talk nonstop about what they could have done different. It will be boring for everyone."

"Lake house?" I asked him, not knowing what he was referencing.

"Oh, shit," Cain shook his head, "I totally forgot to tell you. Carter is throwing a party at his lake house tonight. It's about an hour and a half away, but it's totally worth it, man. He's got a hot tub, a boat, unlimited booze. You'll come right? We can crash there. There's a bunch of rooms."

"You should come, Zane," Trinity added, her voice had dropped down to the seductive tone she had used when she met me on my first day. She was batting her eyelashes, and biting down on her lip. "The hot tub can get pretty wild."

I tried not to let the disinterest I was feeling at her suggestion show on my face. Sure, Trinity was pretty... but she wasn't all that interesting to me.
