Dean Winchester, once hunter now a vampire.

He looked out of the window as he sat in the living room of the Cullens house. He could see for miles, he could hear more than he thought possible and everything he touched was either too rough for his skin or broke in his hands.

It had been almost two weeks of this. He couldn't believe it. He didn't know how to feel about it, any of it. He knew his father had left him and even if he wanted to, he couldn't cry. He wanted to see Sammy, his little brother but refused to see him at the same time. Jasper warned Dean the moment he woke up that it was a long and hard road leading to self-control among the humans and in no way was there going to be an easy route.

He stopped looking out of the window and turned slightly so his gaze was now on himself, staring at his reflection in the small mirror on the wall. His eyes were still red even with the bunny diet the Cullens had him on and his throat still burned from the need to feed. He felt smothered by the attention he was getting---over vigilance on Jasper and Carlisle's part---but he also felt completely alone.

He missed Lizzie, wanting nothing more than to see and talk to her. He glanced to the side when he heard footsteps, he watched as someone emerged from the hallway, and knew from the distinct scent it was Edward.

God and don't even get Dean started on all the things he could now smell.

The two boys stared at each other for a second as Edward heard Dean's thoughts loud and clear. He didn't mind that now Lizzie had her human family with her too, which in turn made Charlie Swan her uncle and Bella her cousin, but still, Edward couldn't help the slight twinge he felt. He knew Lizzie loved him and that wouldn't change and neither would his protectiveness over her and yet here he was dreading the comfort he was about to provide the ex hunter now a vampire.

"She should be back later today or tomorrow."

Dean frowned for a second before rolling his eyes. "Oh, right. I keep forgetting you can read minds."

Edward ignored the sarcasm, he was too used to Rosalie's to be affected. "Carlisle wants to run one more test and if it comes back with nothing he'll release her."

"Since when do vampires need to be hospitalized anyway?"

"The moment they start bleeding when it's physically impossible for our kind," Edward replied. "Our blood's frozen, so are our hearts, organs, and arteries. It's not possible, but then again, Lizzie's never been a normal case. She eats human food when she shouldn't, she can endure sunlight, and she can't stomach blood on its own. Carlisle was worried and Lizzie would never dismiss his worries like the rest of us would."

"They're pretty close, huh?" Dean asked.

"As much as a father and daughter can be." This seemed to be the wrong thing to say when Dean's previous frown only deepened. Edward sighed, inwardly groaning that it was his turn to babysit their newborn. "She's scared you know."
