Chapter 29 - Fright in the Night

You woke up in the middle of the night.

Uno: "Hey, Jinx. You alright?"

I yawned and rubbed my eyes.

Jinx: "Yeah. What are you doing up?"

He smiled.

Uno: "I could ask you the same thing."

I looked around my cell.

Jinx: "Where's Jyugo?"

Uno: "He went out for a bit."

Jinx: "Is he alright?"

Uno: "I think so."

I stood up and stretched.

Uno: "What are you doing?"

Jinx: "I'm gonna go find him. Help me up to the bars."

He lifted me up to the bars and I slipped through, jumping down the other side.

Uno: "Will you be okay by yourself?"

Jinx: "Mhm."

Uno: "Alright, don't get caught."

I walked through the halls, following Jyugo's scent. I was humming to myself since the joy from earlier hadn't worn off. However, I froze when I smell something off. I have never gone from happy to terrified so quickly in my entire life.

Jinx: "I smell blood...... Jyugo."

I ran as fast as I could, following my nose while my panic was rising. I ended up outside on one of the upper floors. I froze when I saw Jyugo being pinned down by a man I've never seen before.

Jinx: "Jyugo!"

They both looked at me and the man smiled wide, his sharp teeth glinting at me. He had his hand over Jyugo's mouth, but he wriggled free from it.

Jyugo: "Jinx! Get out of here, now!!"

Jinx: "But-!"

???: "Oh no, don't go. Now that you're here, you can stick around and watch me cut your brother's head open."

Jyugo: "SHUT UP! Don't talk to her!! Jinx, look at me!"

I was shaking all over and my eyes filled with tears.

Jyugo: "Go get someone! Anyone!"

Jinx: "But, Jyugo... He'll kill you...!"

He tried to give me a reassuring smile, but he was scared.

Jyugo: "No, it'll be alright! I'll be okay... just run! Please!"

???: "That's your adopted little sister, right? She's adorable. Though she's also a little killer, isn't she? And with natural born abilities too! That sounds like it could be useful."

Jyugo: "SHUT!! UP!! Jinx, now!"

I ran back the way I came as fast as I could, tears streaming down my face.

Jinx: "Who the hell was that?! Why was he hurting Jyugo?! I have to... I have to find help- Oof!"

I looked up to see that I ran into Hajime.

Hajime: "Number 33? What are you doing out of your cell?!"

I've never been so happy to see Hajime in my life. I grabbed his hand and pulled.

Jinx: "Hajime, come quick! It's Jyugo! He's in trouble!"

Hajime: "What the hell are you talking about?"

Jinx: "Come on!! We're wasting time!!"

He just stood there staring at me. I sighed and bit his hand hard.

Hajime: "AH-!"

I then ran back towards Jyugo.

Jinx: "This way! Hurry!"

Hajime: "You little runt, get back here!"

He ran after me. By the time we both got back there, the strange man was gone. Jyugo was kneeling next to the fence.

Jinx: "Jyugo!"

He turned to me, and I ran into him, sobbing. He hugged me close.

Jyugo: "Sshh, it's okay... it's okay..."

Jinx: "I thought... he was... going to kill you! Who was that?!"

Jyugo: "It doesn't matter now. I'm alright. I'm sorry."

Hajime: "What's going on, 15?"

Jyugo: "Hajime...... it's nothing... take us back."

Jyugo stood up and carried me back to our cell.

Jyugo: "Jinx, listen... don't tell the others about this... okay?"

Jinx: "But-"

Jyugo: "Please."

Jinx: "O-okay..."
