IN THE SPAN OF HALF AN HOUR, THE TIDE HAD COME IN EVEN MORE THAN BEFORE and they had been sitting outside in the van staring at the rise of mud and water for the last five minutes on what the hell they could do.

Of course it wasn't safe for them to just drive straight through it. Their van definitely wasn't that good to drive through all of that without being taken away by the water and wrecked.

"What are we gonna do?" Brooklyn asked, seating herself in between the two boys at the front.

"How deep is that?" Kiara asked, peering over Brooklyn's shoulder.

"I dunno. The road's gone."

"Tide rose faster than I thought it would."

"Just a little bit."

"John B, how high are the spark plugs?" JJ asks.

"They're good. We're fine," he says, not sounding so reassuring.

"How high are they?"

"Oh, um..." He peers out the window to get a good look. "Uh, just above the taillight."

"Okay, so, that's what, three-feet?"

"That's three feet. Yeah."

"That water can't be three feet deep," Brooklyn says.

"Then what's the problem?"

"Not a problem. No, we're good. We're good. She'll make it," JJ says. They didn't have any time to waste so they needed to get out of here.

"Ladies and gentlemen, fasten your seat belts. Hold on to something. We're going into hyperdrive," John B tells them.

Brooklyn falls back between Sarah and Kiara and holds onto the backs of the seats. JJ starts praying for some unknown reason while the others get themselves prepared for what was about to happen.

"Three, two, one!"

John B started up the engine, getting the car slightly stuck in the heap of mud underneath their wheel. When they finally get themselves free, the group screams and cries in either excitement or worry because he's going so fast down the road covered in mud and water.

JJ was screaming encouraging words at him to try and help him get through it without killing any of them. As he sped up, the water hit the front window and it was deeper than any of them had expected.
