I was just about to flick my cigarette away, still lost in photos from the past, when I heard voices and a bunch of heels clicking, walking up along the sidewalk.

Three figures crossed through the back parking lot and as they stepped into the light, I recognized them instantly.

My focus was on the shortest girl, in the middle. Every curve on her body was being complimented in the tight little black top she was wearing paired with a little pair of 'fuck me' shorts.

As my eyes raked up her body, I couldn't lie; she looked more beautiful with each step she took.

She and her friends were joking until the girl on her right noticed me standing in the shadows under the bar's back awning.

"Oh, shit."

They were still a bit away, but I definitely heard the throaty gasp when Taylor finally saw me.

She stopped in her thigh high boots, and as we locked eyes, my heart began pounding, like it had been injected with adrenaline.

My hand shook as I finally flicked my cig away and I couldn't help but notice Kiana and Della, Taylor's besties since high school, all talking in a little circle.

They were both muttering to Taylor with their backs facing me, and when she looked over their shoulders at me, I could see her chest rise and fall as she shook her head and smiled.

She said something to them I couldn't quite make out and a moment later, Kiana and Della were both walking in my direction.

"Della, Kiana. What's up?"

"Hmmmph."

"Mmmm-hmm."

They both eyed me with a cautionary look in their eyes as they passed me, and I knew that my decisions over the last few years gave them the right to be skeptical.

They had all been best friends since high school so I doubted there was anything Kiana didn't tell them about me.

My eyes were on Taylor as the clicking of her friends' boots disappeared behind me; she had a wavy black wig on that stopped just below her shoulders and framed her face perfectly, but it didn't matter-- Taylor always looked devastatingly gorgeous.

"Hi."

Her silky, soft voice rang in my ears and I sighed in content; her voice had always been my favorite.
