"BROOKLYN, MAYBE IT'S YOUR TIME TO GO." HER DAD WAS SAYING TO HER. It's strange that he was even in her head, it was even more strange that he was telling her to let go and leave, to leave her family, to leave everyone behind.

"I can't leave him," she kept repeating over and over again in her head. "I can't leave him," she couldn't stop saying it.

Brooklyn couldn't leave. She knew that she could hold on, she was stronger than this and she wasn't just about to leave her family, the people who have been by her side for years. She wasn't ready to go, she still had so much of her life to live, to do whatever she wants. She can't leave.

She listened to JJ. Listened to the cries, to the begs, to the screams and she felt angry with herself that she couldn't open her eyes and stop him. She thought about how much she loves him, all those old memories they shared together.

She fell in love with JJ when she was first introduced to him. It was kind of like a love at first sight kind of thing even if he didn't feel the same way immediately. She thought about all those times where they'd pass notes in class, sneak out to go and smoke weed or go on walks or when they'd go down to the beach and surf for hours. She thought about how she would feel when his hand brushed against hers, or when his face was close to hers that she wanted to kiss him. And she did, she did kiss him when they got high on top of the lighthouse but of course, they never really counted that kiss.

Their first kiss was the night after Pope had sunk Topper's boat. The night they all got beat up and the night before JJ went to jail for Pope. Of course, Brooklyn made the first move because she had been thinking about it far too much not to do it. She had been wanting to know what his lips feel like, or how he reacts or just how it feels to kiss him.

And it felt perfect. And everything afterwards felt perfect. Brooklyn loves JJ and she knows he loves her too and all he wants is for her to wake up.

"I can't leave him, Dad," Brooklyn says. "He needs me. I need him."

"Sometimes you have to leave the people you love even when it's hard," his voice his echoey but she can make out what he's saying and she isn't agreeing with him. He's wrong. You don't have to leave the people you love because you go back to them, you be with them.

She didn't just think about how she'd be leaving JJ, she thought about John B. The guy who has literally been there since day one. The guy who watched her grow up and became a mini version of him, the guy who hasn't stopped protecting her since she was a child and the guy who would do anything to have her be okay. Brooklyn doesn't just love JJ but she loves John B and she can just hear the sounds of him crying, the sounds of him screaming and begging for his little sister to wake up.

She can't leave. She can't leave.

She can't leave her friends. She can't leave Kiara, the girl who she once fell in love with, the girl she classes as her best friend, the one who was there for her when she needed someone the most. She couldn't leave Pope, the one she loves with her entire heart. Pope is the sweetest human being on this planet and to think that she could never see him again or listen to him talk and talk about all his brainy crap was breaking her heart. She can't leave Sarah. Sarah has been like her sister since the day she met her, since the day she invited her to Midsummers and the two clicked almost instantly. She loves Sarah. Even thinking about never getting to talk to Cleo or making friends with her was sad to her because from all the stories John B and Sarah told her from the Bahamas about Cleo, she seemed rather cool.
