Chapter 40: Awkward

Edric's P.O.V.

Those minutes after we're so... Awkward... Hunter knowing how I feel about him, but giving me a rejection. And a really weird rejection at that. Luckily, Eda and Luz broke the silence by walking in the room. Even better, Luz was teaching him glyphs, and he's been improving. The rejection however has made me feel.. sad? Or just empty. I'll get over it soon. I hope.

Right now, it's warmer than usual night. Hot, really. I'm in the kitchen, getting something to eat as I'm feeling a slight hunger, then walking to go back to the living room where Hunter sleeps but hear my name being mentioned. "Soooo, Hunter. You've been acting weird. Wanna spill the beans? Especially being weird around Ed." I hear Luz say, in such a gossipy tone.

"Define weird? I'm sure you would know." Is his snarky come back. "Weeeeelllll... Whenever he's around I see you looking at him when he's not looking at you. Actually, you do that almost every time he's not looking." He does?

"It's really uh-" But Hunter interrupts the human girl. "I don't see how that's any of your business." He says it in a frustrated tone, but more frustrated than usual. "There's no need to get defensive-" And he interrupts again. "Just let me go to sleep. I'm tired." "Since when are you not tired?" She jokes before I hear her footsteps lead to her room.

Does hunter feel the same way? Was he lying when he said he's never been in love? I sigh in preparation to step into the living room and see Hunter in a tank top which makes sense as it's a very warm night. At first, I blush at the sight till my face returns to it's usual color, because something ruins the sight.

Scars. And lots of them. I thought he only had a scar on his cheek with a chip on his ear, but there's so much more. So many to count, so many I'd lose track. Who did this to him? I hate to admit it but it makes me want to look away. "Edric? Hello." He says it in such a way he's surprised to see me, and saying it in such an odd way. Wouldn't usually talk like this but after finding out about how I feel, I guess he would be acting weird.

But him staring while I'm not looking? Is there a chance? Who am I kidding? This won't happen.
