Shattered

Halloween

"So where are we going ?" I ask him .

"Relax Gem . I'm not going to kidnap you , I'm just taking you out . You know you need the break ." He says smiling .

Soon , I realise where he's taking me . Marilyn's of Morgantown.  Literally my favourite grub place .

He parks his Benz - which I might want to comment runs smoothly - on the lot and we walk in .

Now I understand why he said no formal wear . I was about to bust out my prom dress .

My mind constantly drifts to Allison and how disappointed she looked when I broke the news to her .

"Sorry Ally,  I cant go with you to your parent's.  I'm just really exhausted , school has just drained me . My mom said I should get some rest . I'm sorry Ally." I said to her . Her face fell.

"My best friend wont be there , my brother wont be there . We might as well cancel. " she said , I could hear her holding back her tears .

"I'm sorry Ally , but you dont have to cancel because of me." I said trying to calm her down.

"Just go and enjoy yourself with your family ." I said to her .

"But I will be sleeping over. Is that okay with you?" She asked , smiling again .

"Yes , I'll get more rest even. " I said hugging her for comfort.

She smiled . I waited till she left till I can get ready and leave .

I feel bad , am I a bad friend?

"Are you okay?" He asks . Nibbling on the fries he ordered.

I didnt know what to get , so I just asked for what he has.

"Yes . Just trapped in the mind again." I say to him . He smiles , although it looks disapproving .

"You need to relax Gem . How was school today?" He asks .

"School was exhausting . How was work?" I ask him.

"Work was work , but let's leave that. I want to hear about you. Look Gem , I know something is disturbing you , you know you can talk to me right?" He says placing his hand ontop of mine .

My heart stops , then when it beats again it fastens .

He knows me , he can tell even when my thoughts are just racing on their own . With just one look , he can tell.

He stares directly at me , waiting for me to tell him what I have to say .

"Look Al , I like what we have going , truly . But I think we're betraying Ally . " I say , he looks at me and his comforting smile falters .

"So you want to end things?" He asks . The way he said it , it's as if we're dating.

"Well no , I just think we should come clean about what's happening ." I say to him . He nods but you can tell that he doesnt want to.

"Okay , tell you what. Let's wait to see where exactly this is going , and when we're sure , then we can talk to Allyson about it , is that fine with you?" He asks , I nod my head . It sounds fair really .

"So what are your plans for tomorrow ?" He asks .

"What's happening tomorrow?" I ask him , it's really confusing these days .

"Halloween , what are you doing for Halloween?" He asks , taking a sip from his drink .

"Ally and I are head to that abundant amusement park for the party. What are your plans ?" He smiles at my question but you can tell that the smile is not of amusement.
