Nico's unexpected encounters

Don't die

Diana threw her fist into the wall of force. It held firm. She tried again and again, but to no avail.

Modeus chuckled. "You can't break through my masters magic. You'd have to be as strong as the gods themselves."

Superman rested his hand on Diana's shoulder.

"Let me try"

Nothing changed. Even Superman couldn't break free of the dome.

Then the bat decided to join the party.

He threw several smoke bombs and swung from his place on the ceiling. Kind of how Tarzan swung on vines in the movies. He started to punch, kick, and even backflip into the many goons.

He was everywhere and nowhere all at once. A rush of wind on a spring day. Great. Now I'm writing out bad poetry in my head.

My body jerked into a defensive stance to guard my kidnapper. I wasn't surprised that Modeus would want to use me as a human shield.

I watched as Batman took out one after another. I thought it was going well until my body started to move again. I drew my sword and stabbed it into the ground. A wide crevice in the floor opened and two skeleton warriors claimed their way up and out.

I could see the strands of control I had over the undead, but it's like I could only see them through a window. Watching my minds grasp slip even further away.

Batman was outnumbered before, but now there are two undead warriors in the mix of enemies. And no matter how hard he tried to break my warriors, they would not stay down. I watched as the skeletons seized hold of Batman. He resisted the best he could, but he was no demigod. He had never seen my powers fully in action and he didn't know how to overpower my abilities.

"Jason, why are you doing this?" he asked.

I couldn't answer.

"Is this the control he has over you?"

"What are you talking about?" Modeus chimed in. "My master is the only one in control here."

The bat turned to Modeus. "Then why do you speak for him."

"My master does not need to speak to someone in your position."

His eyes narrowed. "Somehow, I don't believe that."

"That's your problem. Not mine. Alright, I think that's enough fun for now." Modeus twisted to look at me with raised eyebrows. "Would you like to do the honors dear Master?"

My head nods and my body starts moving on its own. I take a silver cylinder from the goon to my left.

"Jason." Green Arrow said, "don't do this. You are your own person. You can fight it."

I just have time to read the label before I yank out the pin out and toss the device through the force wall. I couldn't stop myself from doing it. I couldn't save my cousin. There was no chance they would survive. I knew because I had just thrown laughing gas into their inescapable prison.

The trapped leaguers backed away from the canister. They couldn't stop it from distributing the gas into their airspace.

We were in big trouble now.

I wanted to close my eyes. To yell and scream. I wanted to run away all over again. But no matter how hard I tried, my body would not listen.

'Worthless.'

'Your sister would have done better.'

'You can't save them'

'Coward'

'Your nothi-'

NO!

Dont think like that anymore Nico. You can't. You promised Will that you wouldn't. And unlike other people, you don't break my promises.

So instead of crying an internal river, I started scanning what I could see for solutions. There weren't many. The gas had nearly filled up the whole prison and the inside was scarcely visible. But out of all the odds, I saw something fall into the dome from the ceiling. It was too small to see what it was.

"What have you done?" Batman whispered from behind me. "I told you if you turned on us there would be consequences. Is this what you wanted? To murder and watch life fade away?"

Again, I couldn't answer. And even if we could. We, demigods, kill every day so we can keep living and breathing. Regardless, we don't kill innocent mortals. My stomach twisted in disgust. Modeus will pay for his crimes sooner or later. Until then, I have to stay strong. I have to break free.

Sorry that this was a shorter chapter. I wanted to get something out for you guys. I hope you are all excited about what's coming next!
