The failed experiment (Bucky x reader)

When Tony landed the quinn jet, you started to feel overwhelmed already. Bucky had dozed off during the three-hour flight, and you had put in your earphones to listen to your music. You kept checking to make sure the inhibitors were still intact. You didn't miss the fact that Bruce and Nat kept looking over at you to make sure that you weren't panicking. They didn't need to know how bad the panic attacks could get. What Nat had seen with you was one of them, and that was relatively mild. The last time, you remembered it was fire, but luckily you had been in the hydra facility when it happened. You refused to remember how many deaths that had caused. It wasn't intentional, but they had pushed you too far over the edge. It was one of the nightmares that plagued you still if you slept too long. At least now you knew you could sleep and not worry about causing an incident while you were at home.

Tony opened the back of the jet and started getting off with Bruce behind him, there were people waiting for him. You knew who they were already, and you were in awe. You kept meeting so many of the people you had secretly admired from afar. Bucky pressed a hand in the small of your back, while Nat confidently took your hand pulling you forward.
"Rhodey, Pietro, Thor, Vision and Wanda. I'd like you to meet Y/N. Feel free to call her kitten" Tony teased.
"Please don't call me Kitten" you growled at Tony who smirked in response.
"We've heard so much about you over the sat phone" Rhodey reached out a hand to you to shake. You blanked and went to take a step back, but Bucky's hand on your back stopped you.
"I'm afraid to ask what that was" your voice was trembling a little.
"Y/N, its okay. They won't hurt you. Its okay, shake his hand" Nat coaxed you, and you reached out a hand and shook Rhodeys hand.
"We heard you don't like to be touched Princessa, but it seems they are working on this already, yes?" Pietro reached out and took your hand kissing it. You turned beat red, and looked to Natasha and Bucky to see if this was normal.
"Sorry for my brother, I'm excited for our girl's day" Wanda reached over and hugged you. You felt her mind reaching into yours and were too panicked to stop it from happening. "Oh wow, no wonder your afraid of being touched" she touched your cheek looking into your eyes. "You've been strong a long time. I'm so glad they found you"
"I'm Vision" he shook your hand formally, and nodded smiling kindly into your eyes.
"Lady Y/N, it is such a pleasure to meet you" Thor took your hand, and kissed your knuckles. You felt Bucky's hand seem to go into a fist each time they kissed the back of your hands.
"Pleasure to meet all of you, I'm just here for some tests" you looked down trying to shrink into yourself a little.
"Sure, you are" Tony smiled, leading the way into the compound. Wanda started talking to Nat excitedly about where all you were going shopping today, while Thor, Vision and Pietro followed behind. Rhodey was already up beside Tony as you got to the doors. "So, we are under reconstruction right now, but we can take the lab on the first floor today. It has a room that Wanda trains in usually. I had speakers installed so that you can hear your music while you do your thing for us. There is a glass window we can watch from, and the room is made of sensors" Tony explained as he walked. You followed dutifully, and nodded as if you understood however had a hard time keeping up as the entire building seemed out of this world. You had never seen anything so big, or so elegant before. There were doors and rooms everywhere, and you were afraid you'd get lost.
"Hungry?" Tony stopped and was staring at you.
"No" you shook your head looking around, feeling overwhelmed.
"This is a lot, Tony. Give her a moment" Wanda spoke up. "Don't worry, it was a lot for us at the beginning too" she gave you a small smile. You unconsciously reached down and touched your inhibitors again to make sure that they were still intact. Bucky's hand started doing circles on your back while you took everything in.
"I'd like to see the room you want me to use please" you finally found your voice. You were missing your cabin already. This didn't feel as safe as you would like. Tony nodded, and took a right heading towards a door.
"I can't go in with you doll, I'll be right outside" Bucky's voice was right beside your ear, and you nodded with resolve. You looked inside the room that Tony was motioning to, and you took it in slowly. It was all black, except for a window to what looked like a computer lab. The ceiling was at least three stories high, and there was padding on most of the flooring. It seemed so cold, but then again you figured, that's what it was supposed to be. Cold, and clinical. At least it wasn't white. That would remind you of a hospital, and you didn't care for those.
"The room will be a safe spot for you to use your powers. We want you to go all out, and not worry. We will be monitoring from behind the glass wall" Bruce reassured you.
"I use this room for testing all the time, you'll be safe" Wanda touched your shoulder and you tried not to jump.
"I need..." you started to tell Tony, but he was quick to grab your phone from you and head into the other side of the glass.
"You ready?" Nat raised one of her eyebrows at you.
"They are all going to be watching, aren't they?" you looked at her, fear was in your eyes.
"Yes" she didn't lie. You appreciated that.
"What if I can't?" you couldn't help but doubt yourself.
"You wont" she shrugged and pushed you further into the room, ushering everyone out and closing the door behind her.
"Is this door flammable?" you called through the window.
"Fire proof" Tony nodded. "Bruce is going to come in, and put a few censors on your body for closer monitoring. Any requests for music?"
"Surprise me, not my bedtime music" you took a few deep breaths. They really were throwing you from the frying pan into the fire today. "What do you want me to start with?"
"Give me everything you've got" Tony grinned.
"Tony, we should probably start small..." Bruce came in and started putting sensors on your head, and some on your chest and arms.
"Gotta run before you crawl" Tony parried, seeming to be throwing screens up everywhere. The room he was in looked so futuristic. Something you had only read about, and could barely imagine. Bruce left and closed the second door, and music filled the room.
You smiled at the song, it was peaceful. You slowly took off the inhibitors and the blue shimmer from your anxiety started automatically. You walked to the center of the room, taking deep breaths.
"Are you sure this is safe?" you asked seeing the frost start to crawl up the sides of the room.
"I wouldn't let them put you in there if it wasn't" Nat's voice came over the speaker. "And we are having a girls day after this" she reminded.
"I never agreed to that" you grumbled, knowing that you were likely going to lose this argument; especially after the argument this morning.
