"We all eat lies when our hearts are hungry."

✰✰✰

I open my eyes to find myself in the same position I was when I fell asleep.

I look up and see Keaton still stroking my hair, looking down at me with a smile. "Hey."

"Hi," I say, voice raspy.

"When you were asleep, I had Adrian wrap your shoulder." Keaton informs me.

I look over at my shoulder and notice the wrap. "Thank you."

Adrian walks into the room. "We need to meet with Maggie at the café. I just called her."

Keaton sighs. "Okay."

I carefully stand up.

"Do you have an extra shirt here?"

I look over my shoulder and see Keaton walking towards me.

"I think in the locker room, let me go change and be right back."

Before I could make a step out of the room he said, "no, for me. Your work shirts are too cold for it, almost being December. I can give you my sweatshirt."

"Keaton no-"

"Found one!"

I spin back around and see Adrian looking through cabinets.

"Idiot." I mutter under my breath.

Adrian throws Keaton the shirt.

Keaton starts to change the shirt as I turn the other direction. "Hold your horses! I am out numbered here!"

"I am just changing my shirt-no need to freak out."Keaton laughs. "Plus, you have seen me without a shirt, I'm a fighter cupcake."

I roll my eyes.

Keaton hands me the sweatshirt. "Here let me help you get out of your sweatshirt."

I back away quickly. "I can do it." I rush out.

"Are you sure?"

I nod quickly.

I don't want you to see my scars.

"I will be quick." I walk into Anna's office and lock the door.

Since where the bandage is-the material is all ripped up-I can easily get out of it.

And I did, without pain too.

I suck in a deep breath before throwing the sweatshirt over my head.

I screech out of shock.

Didn't think it would hurt that bad.

2 knocks. "Cami. You okay?"

"Uh-huh."

Biting on my tongue, I quickly get my arms through.

I walk over to the door and unlock it. "Let's get going." I walked past him and threw the shirt I was wearing in the trash.

Keaton gives me an unsure look before the three of us silently walk out of the entrance.

Apparently, when I was talking to Anna, Keaton picked up Adrian. So the three of us hop into the car.

Keaton is driving, I am sitting in the passenger seat, Adrian is sitting in the back-middle seat.

The ride to the café was quiet. I think we were all a little in our heads thinking about what happened.

I just can't believe my dad-

Wait-

I just realized... Devin working with my dad was to get me to be a fighter all along!

How could I have been so stupid to forget about that!

"Cami." Keaton taps my leg. "Are you ready to go inside?"

I nod.

The three of us get out and walk into the cafe.

Maggie gets up from the booth and hugs me. "I am so sorry Cami."

I hugged her back. "Everything is okay."

We let go and go sit at the table. Maggie and Adrian across from Keaton and I.

"I am just going to get straight to the point," I start, "Mags, do you know everything?"

She nods reluctantly. "I have known since Adrian and I broke up."

I scratch the side of my head. "Nothing is adding up. Can someone explain?" I look around at the three of them.

"We have known you have been in danger of having to fight against Shadow Thorton since August-"

I quickly turn my head towards Keaton. "You have been hiding this from me since we met?"

"Cami. Just listen, I promise I had my reasons to."

I raise an eyebrow at him. "Only because I trust you."

He nods.

"Do you remember when I had that fight in the hallway after I had a fight in the ring, the fighter said they can't protect you, not from this?" Adrian asks.

I look up at him. "Yeah?"

"Everyone has been trying to get you down there."

"Why didn't Devin just take me there when he kidnapped me?" I wonder.

"I think he was just trying to send a message." Keaton adds on.

I throw my head into my hands and release a frustrated sigh.

"Cam, we need to tell you something else..." Keaton trails off.

I look over at him and furrow my eyebrows.

"We knew Mr. Brooks had two daughters he was abusing. We also knew that he wanted both of them to work in the ring illegally," Keaton starts, "I thought they were younger-10 years old was my guess. I didn't know till you saw him that the girls Adrian and I were trying to track down and save-were my girlfriend and her sister who died."

My mouth is agape.

I feel like I'm floating.

A tear escapes the cell behind my eye and falls down, running from being held behind a shield.

I lay my head on the table. "I'm so sorry!"

Keaton pulls me to his side. "Cami. You did nothing wrong. Believe me when I say that."

"Why does Devin even work for my dad...he isn't a fighter."

Keaton rubs his hand up and down my back. "Devin is a fighter."

I swear I am about to pluck off Devins eyebrows.

"When is the fight for the title?" I whisper.

"A little less than a month."

"Holy crap."

"You are already on the schedule for fights at the arena. Your first one is with Cory, then Devin. The same night." Adrian adds on.

I hear a smack then 'ow'. "Why did you do that?" Adrian whines.

"She is clearly stressed out! Why would you stress her out even more!" Maggie yells.

Silence.

"Rain doesn't think." Keaton taunts.

"Oh shush."

"We need a plan to get Niall behind bars."
