The worst part about being a helpless romantic? The act of falling in love with your best friend, of course.

Cassie Park never really had many friends. Her family was new to town in second grade, most students already having their own groups of friends. The new girl in Mrs Shonnys class the least of their worries, who cares if she had no one to play with at resece or sit with at lunch?

Lucas Sinclair cared.

Mike and Will were his only friends, and yeah, that was good enough. He never had to experience being the new kid, never had to not at least have two friends. But there she was, so shiny in her polka-dot dress with curled hair, how could he not purposely throw his entire lunch on her? Yeah, he did it on purpose. For what reason? He didn't even know, maybe to see her reaction, to know if she'd fight back and prove she was strong enough to take on the role of being friends with just weirdo boys.

But the weird thing was, Cassie only smiled and insisted on splitting her own lunch with him.

From that day forward, the four were inseparable. Then a year later, they had Dustin, and then four years later, they had El, five years later they had Max. It was perfect really, their little friends group. All Cassie really wanted in life was to be around people she loved that loved her back. And they did, they really did love her back.

But the thing was, Lucas didn't love Cassie in the way she'd only ever wished he had.

Six years Cassie has been stuck on the Sinclair boy. Six entire years did he call her his best friend, six years did she get treated like one of the boys and longingly hoped he'd hold her hand instead of punching her in the arm. And then last December, half a year ago, things really changed. Sure, she knew Lucas didn't return the hopeless romantic feeling she did, but at least she didn't have to suffer seeing him with another girl.

And then she did.

Cassie and Max were actually good friends to say the least, they really were. And Cassie would never hate her for dating Lucas, considering no one except Jonathan Byers knew about her ridiculously intense crush. And she'd never hate Lucas either, in a weird way, she was kinda happy for them. Kinda being a very large key word on that though.

Now, in the summer of 85', and El being back home, their friend group finally all back together, Cassies lovely attempt to move on is in action. The Plan Of Getting Over Lucas Sinclair, she wrote in her notebook and checked it off with many reasons and ways for her to forget the lame, one sided crush she'd had for now seven years. But, as you expected, that did not go as planned.

But what really will hook you in, is knowing Cassie left her check list at Dustin's house, and his sticky fingers handed it over to Lucas the night they almost died at Starcourt Mall.
