—————The next night had fallen.
Thankfully, because of getting ahold of everyone the day before we'd settled that the next day was the night for the dinner. I parted the mascara wand from my face and jumpily shoved it back into the tube as someone bursted into my room. I set it down on top of my dresser and turned to face the culprit. Jayde."Oh hey. Didn't know you were home."
She crossed her arms, holding them in front of her torso and leaning back onto the open door that'd been slammed against the door stopper.
"Well I am. What are you getting ready for?""I'm going out for dinner."
She furrowed her eyebrows.
"Like a date?""It's just a friend thing."
"Oh. Mkay."
I'd waited for her to say something else, carry on the conversation, but she didn't. I hadn't wanted want to be rude but at the same time it wasn't an enjoyable silence.
"Anyway.. did you need something?"
"Wow, okay."
I grunted, hoping she hadn't taken notice. What had she expected me to do? Just stand there in silence with her? I tried my best to conjure up a question, but only came up with-
"Where'd you go the other night?"
This is good. Show interest in her. Right? Ugh, just say something already.
Rolling her neck across the door, she faced me.
"In other words you want to know where Miles went the other night."I had an immediate wave of irritability come over me.
Only she would be the one to flip a question about her and make it about something completely different.
"No. I'm asking about you. You blew off your little sister's birthday. I think I should be able to know why. To suck face with your boyfriend or something? You easily could've done that here."
"Ha! Tell me something I didn't already know. And you seriously think we'd do that with Miles there? No thanks. Come on Margo, I know you're just trying to keep tabs on Miles. I'll play along though, just for you. We went over to Vinnie's place and hung out."
"Why would I wanna keep tabs on someone I'm not even friends with?"
"Maybe it's because you were all over him? Either way, sounds like someone's feelings are hurt."
She mocked and pushed out her lip.My mouth opened slightly. I tried to pick up my jaw before she noticed but unfortunately I wasn't quick enough. She smirked and chuckled quickly to herself, satisfied.
"All over him? Who said that?"
I asked, a knot taking form in my stomach. I so badly hadn't wanted to hear his name come out of her mouth."Miles."
There it was.
"Anyway, I'll leave you to it. Have fun at your friend dinner thing I guess."
