Chapter 57

Oriya Deronte

He stays silent and so I decide to lay it all out on the table at once, "I saw her."

Vincent was undoubtedly caught off guard by the words I had just said. His hand in mine grew stiff, and I felt it flinch in response to the unexpected news. I can only imagine how he'll respond once it's all settled in.

As I sweep my eyes over every single one of his features while I can, my heart thumps against my chest. I'm sure I'll never get another chance to see it. He's never going to talk to me again.

"My mother is alive?" He says, looking to the floor with a confused face which quickly turns into one filled with anger, "And you knew!?"

I sniffle and attempt to explain the situation, "Yes, but-"

"And you didn't fucking tell me?" He says, deadly.

With rage and anger, he tightened his jaw. "Vincent, please listen to me." I pleaded, before he snatched his hand out of mine. I reach for him only for him to move back. He was disgusted with me.

"Don't." He said. As I realize that nothing will ever be the same with us again, a choked sob escapes my lips. I didn't want to lose him. My eyes pleaded to let me explain while his swam with hatred and wrath.

"Where is she?"

"Leo has her. That's all I know." I said quietly.

"She- she's alive? You saw her?" He says, stepping back. I can only get myself to nod yes in response. He looks at me like I've just broken his world into little pieces.

"You knew. And you didn't tell me." Vincent says to himself. I keep my mouth shut. I couldn't think of anything to say to that. I was well aware of how upset he would be, but I opted to keep it from him for the sake of my brother's safety.

"This is my fucking mother! My mother is alive and you didn't bother saying a fucking word?!" He shouts in anger.

"I couldn't-" I tried.

"Shut up. Shut the fuck up." He says harshly, almost making me flinch at his tone.

"You knew my mother was alive and living. You knew who had her. Yet, you don't say a word to me about it?"

I wince, "I'm sorry Vincent. Leo told me he-"

"I don't give a fuck!" He shouts, making the room shake, "I don't give a fuck about what he told you! You had no right to keep this from me!"

He doesn't say anything else but I can't seem to get my voice out right now. Vincent simply stares at me, but it's not like normal times. His eyes are filled with nothing but abhorrence for me. His face is set hard and he runs a frustrated hand down his face.

I locked my gaze on him. He didn't look away, but I noticed him pinch his eyes shut as they stung with tears. I reach out for his hand but he rips it out of my grasp. His chest heaves up and down as he takes a single step closer to me.

With his eyes and face set hard, he utters the words that he could never take back, "I should've let you die." He says in a serious and lethal tone.

He leans away and looks at me in pure loathing before leaving the room. "No! Vincent!" I exclaim, ripping the blanket off me and chasing after him, hoping to get a chance to explain further. He had to know why I kept it.

"He was threatening Ryder! I didn't know what else to do, I couldn't risk Ryder's life. You and him are all I have." I said, pathetically. He turns around and I use that chance to grab his arm to keep him from leaving.
