11/7/21 - I am not a woman, I'm an egg

humpy dumpty sat on a wall
that she built for herself
walls high and dry
with no way in
with no way out

humpty dumpty sat in her tower
content to look out
and never let down her hair
she built her wall out of two-way mirror
nothing to see here
nothing to see here

humpty dumpty kept her mouth shut
heart tight
lips tied
what they don't know cant hurt them, right?

humpty dumpty waited to fall
the wind gusted
her grip tightened
but it was only a matter of time
before her hands gave out
or her heart gave in

and when she does (and she will)
there will be no one waiting to catch her
no one to watch her hurtle towards the ground
no one to find her
until she's already in pieces

and that's when
all the kings horses
and all the kings men
will say "it don't take a genius
to see how this ends."

but they'll take out their tools
and their glue
and their tape
sticking egg shells to soul-shards
bone-chips to eyelashes

and when they've done the best they can
they'll hoist her back up
to her spot on the wall
not the same, and even more likely to fall

and she'll look at the pieces
they left on the floor
and wonder, how long will it be
until I join them once more

---

humpty dumpty sat on a wall
and said "call out to the horses
before your great fall,
so that all the kings women
and all the kings men
will keep you from hitting
rock bottom again."
