Chapter 9

Hailey

"Oh, shut up Hailey, you were so f*cking hot!" Lily exclaimed, shoving another forkful of salad into her face. I couldn't help but chuckle at her eagerness for eating and talking about my appearance at the party two days ago.

"Amen!" Bekah chimed in, giggling as Josh pulled her in for yet another kiss.

Lily rolled her eyes at them, "You are such lovebirds!"

I could feel Chase's eyes on me from across the lunch table and I couldn't help but think back to Saturday night and the heated moment we shared in the kitchen at the party. A light blush crept on my face the more I thought about it and I looked down at my lunch, stabbing absent-mindedly at my salad. I thought more of Saturday night as I was consumed in my own thoughts.

I walked into the yellow house, all of the rooms dark, as I made my way into the kitchen, I jumped as David popped out, holding a knife to my throat. He sighed and stepped away as he realized it was only me.

"What the hell?" I exclaimed, pushing him away.

He sighed, "Sorry, I killed a young mom and her pup today and I don't think the Alpha took it very well."

My eyes bugged out, "You did what? David, I'm supposed to do all of it, you know that! You could've just ruined all of this!"

The Chief was painstakingly clear in his orders that I was the only one to kill the werewolves in this pack, that it was not to be interrupted by any other hunter. By David killing those two, he could've just ruined everything for the rest of both of our careers.

He rolled his eyes, "Calm down, it was self defense. I was just scouting and they got too close to the house, I had no choice to take them down. Don't worry, though, I used two different weapons to confuse the weres even more."

"What did you use?" I questioned, nothing but authority in my voice even though he was older than me, was my trainer and held a higher rank in the hunter's society than me.

"A cross bow and a gun, so you can calm yourself, no need to get your panties in a twist," he grumbled, pocketing his knife and it was then I realized he was wearing full hunting gear.

I narrowed my eyes at him, "You so weren't scouting."

David swore, "Listen Hails, I just couldn't stand not doing anything anymore. I was going crazy just working and being holed up here. I was dying to spill a little were blood. You get it, don't you?"

Shaking my head, I gave him a look of great disbelief, "I can't believe your blood thirst led you to disobey direct orders from The Chief."
