Izuku's eyes snapped open.
Immediately, he was on high alert. First of all, where was he? This wasn't his dorm room. Instead of a bed, he was laying on a cot on the floor, and a lukewarm washcloth was on his forehead.
He sat up slowly, testing One for All to make sure it was there and whatever villains had kidnapped him hadn't cancelled his quirk. It responded as quickly as ever. Good. He was probably dealing with amateurs; he'd be able to easily escape and get back to UA in no time.
He checked himself over for injuries, but found nothing but bruises that had already been there last night from training. Strange. They must have used some sort of drug to get him here, which also explained why he didn't remember any sort of fight.
Abruptly, the door swung open, and Izuku immediately leaped into a fighting stance, green lightning crackling around him. But-
-it didn't seem to be a villain? A young girl, no older than 12, was standing in the doorway. She held a few cloths and a washbasin in her arms, and right now, she was the picture of fear.
Izuku quickly deactivated OFA, falling into an open, placating stance. This girl didn't seem like she would do any harm. "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to frighten you, but I'm a little confused. What am I doing here? Where am I?" The girl trembled, but she seemed to understand that his reaction was defensive and based on lack of knowledge about his situation.
"M-my family found you in a nearby alley unconscious, so we took you home to care for you. You're - you're in Ba Sing Se right now, in the Middle Ring of the Inner City." Her voice trembled, but that wasn't what made her words so indecipherable.
Izuku shook his head. "I'm sorry, Ba Sing Se? Could you perhaps tell me what country that's located in?" She immediately looked confused, but she replied nonetheless.
"Country? If you're referring to which nation it's located in, we're in the Earth Kingdom." Izuku's mind raced as he processed the new information. Earth Kingdom...he had never heard of any place called the Earth Kingdom, but maybe his geographical knowledge just wasn't expansive enough. But besides that, she had been confused when he had said country and referred to nations. Could it be...?
"Um, nations?" She nodded, but not without a concerned look. She seemed more relaxed now, her posture less stiff.
"Yes, there's four? The Earth Kingdom, Fire Nation, Water Tribe, and Air Nomads? Although, no one has seen an air nomad in a hundred years." She posed the first few sentences as if they should be common knowledge. Izuku had a hunch, but...it just didn't seem plausible.
"I'm sorry, but I think you should sit down. Does your head hurt?" She approached cautiously, and Izuku sat down to appease her and to seem less threatening.
"No, I feel fine. Just...do you think you could bring me a map?" Izuku winced at his rudeness, but right now, he just really needed to confirm his theory. If he was right, and he was in a different world, he needed to come up with a plan as soon as possible.
She nodded hesitantly, then left the room. Izuku sagged as soon as the door shut, his thoughts weighing heavy on his mind. Working based off his hypothesis, if he was in a different world, it would likely be impossible to contact anyone in Japan. Regardless of this world's current technology level, their communication systems probably wouldn't be able to connect to ones in a completely different universe. A glance at his attire told Izuku that he was in his pajamas and didn't even have his phone, so he couldn't even try to contact them.
Izuku sighed and pushed all thoughts of making contact away. Now that he had determined that it would be useless to try without gaining more knowledge about this world, he needed to focus his energy on a bigger problem: actually getting back to Japan. He thought back. Had he done anything that brought him into contact with a dimension-hopping quirk? The last day he remembered was just a regular school day. All he did was go to his classes and go to bed. So either the quirk had a delayed effect, or he had been transported in the middle of the night while he was asleep.
The best outcome would be that it had been a quirk, as ones of this magnitude usually had a time limit to their effect. Eventually, it would wear off and Izuku would be teleported back to Japan. Worst-case scenario, it never wore off, and Izuku could never find a way back and was stuck here forever. He felt a hot prick behind his eyes at the thought. If he never made it back, he could never see his friends and family again...
He shook his head resolutely, taking a deep breath. No. He wouldn't let it come to that.
He would make it back.
