( season 1, episode 6 : gganbu )

Jiwon walked in between Saebyeok and Jiyeong as they were led to the 4th game, slowly milling through the familiar staircases.

She turned a corner and sighed, trying to continue to walk but stopping as she bumps into her sisters back.

" What the-" She starts, about to slaughter his sister for stopping for no reason, until she looks up.

The dead bodies of four guards were strung up,  arms bent above them at an awkward angle. Their chests were bloody, and one of them wore a see-through, bloody apron.

In between all of them, was the corpse of player 111, strung up the same way, arms bent unnaturally.

" Players, what you witness before you is what remains of those who broke the rules for their own benefit." Goosebumps rose on Jiwon's now bare arms, and she swallowed down the vomit in her throat, willing herself not to gag.

" They tainted the pure and fair ideology everything her has been built open. Each and every one of you is considered an equal within the walls of this facility. You must be guaranteed the same opportunities without being disadvantaged or facing any kind of discrimination. We truly apologise for allowing such an unacceptable incident to occur."  The players started moving again as the voice disappeared, and Jiwon shook her head, watching her feet.

" Pure and fair my ass."

" Players, welcome to the fourth game. For this game, you will be playing in teams of two. Please look around and find someone you wish to play with."

" When two people agree to play together, shake hands to show you have become partners."

Jiwon shook her head as she watched Minyeo beg the men on the team for a partner, desperately. Being annoying really doesn't get you anywhere.

Sangwoo looked extremely uncomfortable as she got in his face, and she looked to the team, obviously panicking as she began to shout.

" Stop embarrassing yourself." Jiwon snorted, making the woman look at her.

" No one will want to play with you when you act like this." Then, she glanced around at the rest of the team.

" Just be honest. You don't want a girl to team up with or an old man. It's obvious." Player 196 scoffs, rolling his eyes.

" Of course we don't. We could die. We already nearly died in the last round."

" The man is right." Player 244 agreed, and Jiyeong sighed.

" It was Adam's rib the Lord used to make Eve after all."

" Hate to break it to you, but we're not playing in Eden, asshole." Jiwon bit back, Saebyeok standing up.

" Hey, hold on a second." Gihun called out, and Saebyeok stopped, turning around.

" Why? You want a girl?" When he didn't reply, she walked off, Jiyeong standing up and leaving not long after.

Jiwon sighed, exasperated. These men were going to be the death of her.

She was brought out of her thoughts by a tap on her shoulder, and she looked over to see the old man.

" You should wear this." He told her, holding his own jacket in his hands.

" People may look down on you for not wearing it." Jiwon smiled a bit and took the jacket, thanking him.

She stood up and walked down the steps, putting the jacket on as she walked over to her sister.

" We doing this or what?" She asked, zipping up the jacket. Saebyeok turned to her.

" Obviously." She muttered back, nudging her little sisters shoulder. Jiwon grinned at her. Sae-Byeok missed that little smile. They then shook hands.

The pair sat back down on the steps, observing the partners coming together. If they had known the game, or the consequences, exactly, they would've parted ways.

It got down to the point that the only person left without a partner was, surprise surprise, Minyeo.

She was grabbing at people as they passed to enter the game hall, Sae and Jiwon swerved to avoid her, Sae-Byeok slinging her arm around Jiwon's shoulders.

They stood in the group, observing the game area. It looked to be a recreation of an old Korean neighbourhood, one that Jiwon had never had the pleasure of living in.

Minyeo's screams silenced as the doors slammed shut.

" Attention, all players," The PA lady spoke, startling Jiwon a bit. " Please follow the staff to your designated positions for the game."

A guard moved to stand in front of the two girls, before beginning to walk away as they followed.

They ended up by a stone staircase, the guard stopping in front of them.

Jiwon shifted in her spot, anxiously awaiting the announcement of the game.

The guard pulled two pouches out of his pockets, holding them out with his gloved hands.

" Players, please take one bag each from the staff member before you." They did as told, Jiwon furrowing her brows as a clinking sound came from inside.

She opened it up carefully.

" There should be a set of ten marbles in each bag. Please check to confirm the number." Jiwon almost chuckled as she poured out the little clear spheres into her palm.

Her and Sae always used to play with marbles in their childhood. They'd always go out their backyard, to their fence, and see who could throw the marble the furthest from a distance.

Her sister seemed to think of the same thing, a smile ghosting her lips.

The PA lady began to speak again.

" In this game, using your set of ten marbles, you will play the game of your choice with your partner. The player who manages to take all ten marbles from their partner wins."

Jiwon's blood ran cold. Sae-Byeok's heart dropped. The rules repeated, but neither of them heard it.

Jiwon's head hurt as they made slow eye contact, her eyes growing glassy.

One of them would die.
