The baseball dad

Chapter 4

We went thru the very familiar gate and I looked over at Ronnie and saw her eyes get big. "This is the sandlot. I've played baseball here since I was 8 years old. And my son will grow up playing ball here. So the reason I call the boys the sandlot boys is because their the boys that play at the sandlot," I state walking to home plate. I still have a sleeping Cavin in my arms so I rub his back. "Wow this is so cool. Can I play with y'all sometime?" She asked me. "Yea this weekend meet me at my house at 9:30 ok," I tell her as we started walking back to the house. "Yea ok," she said grabbing my hand. I just hold it back giving it a squeeze.

I ended up not going back to school the rest of the week with Cavin still being sick.
"Hey bubba do you want to go play baseball today?" I asked the toddler who is clinging to me like a baby koala. "No Dada I wanna cuddle on da couch all day," he said rubbing his head in my neck. I frowned rubbing his back saying "ok bubba we can just cuddle on the couch."
I grabbed his blanket and a new passie out of the container and headed down to the living room.

I grabbed my phone and texted the group chat saying, 'sorry boys no baseball for me and the little man. He doesn't feel great so we will be staying home feel free to drop by the doors open like always.' I text Ronnie as well saying 'hey little man is still sick so we aren't going over the the sandlot but you can if not you can come over here if you want the doors always open so come on in.' I put my phone down going upstairs to change Cavs outfit into some normal clothes and some little toys I hope he will play with.
"Ok bubba let's get you changed kk," I say to him as I lay him on his changing table. "Tay dada," he says sucking on his pacifier.

"Do you want to play with these toys?" I ask him. "No dada I wanna cuddle," he says climbing back into my lap.
I sit there thinking about what going on when Veronica walks in. "Hey Ronnie will you hand me my phone?" I ask her as she comes over to me. She nods and hands me my phone. "I need to make him a doctors appointment with you hold him?" I ask her as I get up. "Yea I would love to," she says Getting him from me. I nod and walk up stairs.
"Ok so today at 11:15?"
"Ok thank you,"I say to the nurse on the phone. I walk back down stairs and I see my toddler cuddled up to the girl i have taken a liking to. As well as said girl asleep with my toddler. I take a picture of them putting it as my Home Screen. Yep I think he likes her.
I'm still smiling as I walk up stairs to pack his dipper bag.

I go down stairs with it and put some water in a sippy cup as well as some in a bottle incase he needs one.

I go into the living room slightly rocking the older girl holding the younger. "Huh," she said sitting up a little bit. "Hey Ronnie you feel asleep and. We need to get to the doctor you can come if you want," I tell her as I grab the boy from her. "Yea I'll come." "Ok will you grab that bag and sippy cup please?" "of course," she said grabbing them as I grabbed my keys. "K let's go," I said shutting the door behind us heading to my truck. I put the toddler in his car seat and went to the passenger. "Can I move the seat?" Ronnie asked. "Of course that's now yours if you'll have it," I said to her. She just smiled at me fixing it to perfection.

We pulled up the the building and I found a semi close parking spot. Jumping out to get the dipper bag Ronnie went ahead and grabbed little man from the car I turned the corner of my truck and saw my boy not caring that she was grabbing him and not me, he just snuggles in to her. I felt pride in my boy that he's comfortable with her. I walked over to the two and asked, "ok y'all ready?" "Yea dada," my two year old told me laying his head on Ronnie. He didn't Even ask for me. Wow. I took Ronnie's hand and headed in to the doctors office.

"Cavin Rodrigues!" We heard over the intercom. I stood up grabbing the dipper bag as Ronnie stood up with Cav still in her arms.
We walk in to the room and Ronnie sits the toddler on the bed and sits beside me. We sit their and wait for the nurse to come in to check his height and weight. 

"Wow bubba you are 3 feet tall that's so tall," I say sitting the boy back on the bed. "Really dada?" "Yea that's almost taller the Ronnie," I say smirking at the girl beside me. "Hey I'm 5'0 flat so he's got a ways to go," she shot back at me. I smiled at her. We sat their making funny faces at the toddler because this is the longest he's not wanted me or Ronnie to hold him.
Knock knock "Good morning you three what seams to be the problem?" Dr.Honey comes in asking. "Well Cavin has been sick since Tuesday he did brake his arm Monday and was in the hospital most of the day so I'm thinking he caught something form there. My only concern is that normally when's he's sick he's super clingy and won't let anyone hold him but me but now he won't even sit on the ground to play," I state. "Ok well let's take a look," she says going over to the toddler. 

"Poor boy," Ronnie says as well pull up the the pharmacy. "I know the boys got Strep," I say to her grabbing her hand. "Hey Veronica?" I ask her. "Yea Benny."
"Do you want to go on a date with me once he's feeling better so my mom can watch him?" I ask her. "Yes I really would."
"Ok it's a date." "Yep it's a date," she replied squeezing my hand. I smiled bringing it up to my lips kissing it then pulling up to the window.
