Chap. 9

"Original song?" I asked as I read the sign.

"You've seen the show," Said Sarah, "the hardest round is the one that you have to pass to get to the live shows."

"I don't know what I'm gonna do."

"Relax, you'll do great." She said with a sympathetic smile.

"Thanks." I told her.

She gave me a quick hug, then left.

I kept staring at the sign.

'To get to the live shows, all contestants must sing an original song.'

I sighed.

I've never written an original song before.

"Hey!" I turned to see Cole. I instantly smiled.

"Hi!"

"What's that?" He asked as he put an arm around me.

"We have to write an original song."

"What?"

"Yep."

"Oh my God." He said while adjusting his beanie, "Anyways, are you ready for our date tomorrow?"

"I can't wait."

"Me either."

We stared at each other.

"Ugh," said Dalton as he appeared with Gabe and Will, "this is a public space, keep it PG."

"We weren't doing anything, bro."

"Yeah, right." He said.

I playfully pushed him.

I've been writing non stop of hours. I had a melody, but no lyrics.

I was going crazy, so I decided to head to Cole's room for a bit. Maybe we could watch a movie or something.

When I got there, the door was ajar, and there was fighting coming from the inside.

"You knew I liked her, and you didn't care!"

"That's not fair, you were all over Amanda! It's not my fault you want to gamble two girls at the same time!"

"I just wanted to get to know Amanda, that didn't make me stop liking her!"

"That's bullshit! I'm sorry, Dana. But I really like Marley, and I think she deserves better."

"Forget it, I thought you were my friend."

I heard Dana's footsteps getting closer. I ran behind a wall and hid as he exited Cole's room.

He liked me?

It didn't matter.

I like Cole and he likes me back. And that's the way it should be.

I walked back to Cole's room and knocked on the door.

"Who is it?" He called.

"Marley."

He opened the door and hugged me.

"Come in," He said while moving to the side, "what's up?"

"I thought we could watch a movie or something."

"Yeah, we can watch a movie or something."

I smiled.

As I walked, I saw that some lists were posted next to the sign that said we had to sing an original song.

They were the performance order.

I read that Sarah and IM5 were singing tomorrow and I was singing the day after.

I immediately texted them.

'We're gonna kill it.'

All of the contestants were sitting down on the bleachers. A girl just tanked her original song and was crying uncontrollably on stage.

I breathed in deeply.

This definitely did not help calm my nerves.

"We're so sorry, Maria," said Austin, "don't be afraid to audition again next season."

"Okay," said Simon as Maria left the stage, "now for the last performers, IM5!"

They stood up and I squeezed Cole's hand, giving him a reassuring nod.

They stood up on stage, and Dalton started singing while the rest stayed in a cool formation;

Then, Cole went up front and stared at me deeply in my eyes.

'How you dress and your style, you're an angel

Then the rest of them sang and did a really cool dance;

Everyone cheered and the judges stood up.

"That was amazing!" Screamed Britney.

"Really, really nice job guys. Good stuff." Said Austin.

They stepped off stage and I ran to hug Cole. I felt Dana's stare but I just brushed it off.

I was really proud of the boys, but it also got me worried.

What if my song wasn't good enough?
