Broken 💛: Drake

.If your friends don't support what you're passionate about, then are they really your friends?
Hailey's words rang in Jake's mind as he made his way to the cafeteria. Well, it was more like his feet were carrying him there.
He thought about everything that's happened ever since he met Drew. Drew had given him a sense of security he hadn't felt before due to bullying. He had protected him, for years, and Jake was thankful for that. He loved Drew for that.
But after everything, he's not sure if Drew still loves him.
He bullied other people. A lot. Even made Jake bully them. He would admit, after a while, he started finding enjoyment in bullying others, but he's changed. He has found true acceptance, true friendship in the music club.
But... Drew has still stuck with him at his worst. When he was bullied, Drew stayed by his side. But now, Drew didn't support who he was. He hated music, something Jake loved. And it was heartbreaking because he didn't want to do this, but he had to, for himself. And in a way, for Drew too.
His legs stopped automatically outside the cafeteria. He took a shaky breath before opening the door to the cafeteria.
His eyes scanned over the room, looking for the one magenta-haired boy. He noticed him sitting at their usual table. Henry and Liam were nowhere in sight. He sighed, he didn't want to talk to Henry and Liam separately. But he needed to get this out.
He looked around the room as he went over to Drew. Zander and Sean were talking nearby, and Daisy was on the other side of the cafeteria with her friends.
He remembered the day he had told Drew, Liam, and Henry that he had joined the music club. Henry and Liam had teased him, and Drew was naturally upset. Things between them weren't so complicated back then, and he partly wished their friendship could go back to how it was. But they were far too deep to go back that way.
Jake pulled a chair for himself and sat across from Drew. Drew looked up from his phone for a moment, smiling and waving as a greeting.
"Hi, Drew. Can we talk?"
Drew nodded, still scrolling through his phone. Jake reached out and gently pulled Drew's phone away from him. Drew looked confused but he put his phone aside, looking nervously at Jake's serious face.
"What's up?" He asked.
Jake didn't make eye contact, felt like he wouldn't be able to breathe if he did. A lump stuck in his throat, itching to get the words out but still hesitating.
"I- we need to talk, Drew."
Drew looked a bit surprised but he nodded nonetheless, signaling Jake to continue. Jake was a bit lost on where to start but he soon sighed and began to talk.
"Look Drew, we've been friends for years and I appreciate everything you've done for me," Jake started. He could see Drew's face steadily get more nervous, can he already predict what Jake was about to say? "But... I think it would be good for both of us if we distance ourselves for a bit."
Drew pulled away from the table. "What?"
Jake nodded, already feeling a piece of his heart break at the crack in Drew's voice. "It's all just too much, you know? You want me to leave the club after the competition but, the thing is, I don't want to."
"So that's it?" Drew said. "You're throwing away our friendship of years for a bunch of freaks?"
Jake flinched at that, and Drew let out a whimper. Drew placed his head in his hands, seemingly near to tears. He took a few deep steady breaths before looking up at Jake again.
"Anything left to say?" He said, there was a bite to the words.
Jake nodded. "Yes. Look, Drew, I love you as a friend, I know that deep down you're a great person but, I think that we both need a break. We've both silently been hurting each other and... if we just stay away to reflect for a while, maybe we can work something out? Be friends again maybe?"
"So... there's a chance we can still be friends some day?"
Jake smiled sympathetically. "If that's what we both feel like is the right thing."
Drew nodded, standing up. "So, I guess it starts now?"
Jake stood up and hugged Drew. Drew felt tears sting his eyes but he kept calm, wanting this moment to last.
But it can't.
After a way too long hug that felt way too short, Jake pulled away, smiling and waving as he walked out of the cafeteria, leaving Drew feeling alone in a cafeteria full of people.
