As they walked to their lessons, overwhelmed with nervousness, Lily fiddling with the loose ends on her jumper decided to strike up a conversation.

"So are you new here? because I don't recall seeing you around and as a prefect, I tend to know everyone" she babbled.

"Um yeah, my family and I recently moved back to England so now I come here" He answered, happy to be rid of the awkward silence that was beginning to envelop them.

"Oh, where did you live before?" she asked feigning surprise.

"I lived in a wizarding city in France called l'oeuf du dragon, quite a silly name honestly" he chuckled to himself

"What does it mean?"

"It means the dragon's egg" he translated causing her to laugh.

"So you went to Beauxbatons?"

"No my sister did, but my father sent me to durmstang since he thought it would toughen me up," he told her.

"Ugh, I hate the gender expectations! Why can't we all just be accepted for who we are instead of having to live up to the expectations of the world!" Lily ranted slowly becoming flustered at the realisation that she was ranting.

"Don't we all? The thing is everyone is too scared to be different, to be who they are because they feel like they'll be judged or become an outcast of society. But I promise you red, one day the world will get better and if it happens in our lifetime, I will be there" He paused turning to face her  "Right next to you" he finished

"Pinky promise?" she asked peering into his honey-dipped eyes (I was so tempted to write orbs instead)

"Pinky what?" He asked completely confused at what she had just uttered.

"It's a muggle thing" she explained

"Alright, so you interlock your pinkies" She explained while interlocking her warm pinky finger with his cold one.

"then you say pinky promise but you're never allowed to break a pinky promise because it's sacred. If you do it's seen as betrayal" She dramatically told him.

"Okay this sounds a bit scary but since I don't plan on breaking this promise, I pinky promise"

"Remember if you break it, It's basically betrayal," Lily said wiggling her finger in his face as they continued to walk.

"You said you have a sister, is she in this school?" she asked wanting to know more about him.

"Yeah she's a Ravenclaw"

"She must be smart, what's her name?"

"her names Adrienne but I call her drey because why not?" he shrugged "Not very smart considering she nearly blew herself up" he rolled his eyes

"How? I need the whole story!" she laughed

"It's not that interesting, basically she does a lot of experimenting and one of them just happened to go wrong" seeing Lily's intrigued look he continued "I was in my room dying of boredom when I heard a huge bang coming from her room so I rushed into her room, after a few minutes of contemplating whether to ignore the bang or go see what happened, only to see her on fire so I just dunked some water on her" He laughed recalling the memory "she couldn't complain even though she wanted to because technically I was helping her" He finished causing them both to collapse into a fit of giggles.

"Ah, I wish I still had the playful hatred with my sister" she sighed sadly after their laughter died down.

" You have a sister?"

"I had one"

"oh I'm sorry for your loss"

"No she's still alive, just doesn't want anything to do with me and my 'freak' magic"

"Don't let her bring you down, you're an amazing girl red and if she doesn't realise it well it's her loss"

"Thank you. I mean I'm not ashamed of being magic, I just wish she would support me and realise I didn't choose it"

"If it's any help, siblings seem to always get back on good terms so I have a feeling that she'll eventually realise you didn't choose this, you were chosen"

"I hope so" she sighed hopefully, "well this is me, so I'll see you at lunch?"

"See you at lunch" he nodded before walking down the hallway.

                                                                 ***

Cassie had been waiting impatiently for Lily to enter the class because she needed to ask her a very important question.

"So how was your walk with August?" Cassie smirked suggestively.

"It was good! he's amazing! He told me about his sister and I told him about mine-" lily abruptly stopped blushing furiously at the realisation that she was babbling on about him, and not in a bad way.

"If I didn't know any better I would say you've got a crush"

"No, I don't!" Lily protested becoming flustered.

"Your blushing" Cassie smirked wagging her finger in Lily's face reminding her of how she'd done the same to august causing her to turn even redder.

"Okay! I might be a tiny bit smitten by him but only because he's an absolute gentlemen" she defensively admitted.

"I knew it! Alice, you owe me 5 galleons!" Cassie shouted across the room to where Alice was sitting with Emmeline Vance who the girls used to share their dorm with until their 3rd year.

"You guys were betting on me?!"

"Of course! An opportunity to make quick money heck yes!" Cassie admitted with no shame.

"You've got a point, I can't even argue" Lily shrugged turning to face their new professor, Professor Flitwick, who had just entered the classroom.
