My hands were shaking as I waited for the email. I jumped when our apartment door opened.

"So?"

I turned around to see Joe walking in. He put his keys on the counter before jogging over to me. He rubbed my shoulders and leaned down, pressing a kiss to my cheek.

"Nothing yet," I sighed.

"You know what they say," Joe teased. "A watched email never comes."

I looked over my shoulder, his expression dropping when he saw the look on my face.

"I'm sorry, babe," he whispered. "I was just trying to lighten the mood."

"I know," I sighed. I tilted my head up and puckered my lips. Joe smiled before leaning down and kissing me. When he broke the kiss, he smirked.

"I can think of something we can do to keep your mind off the email," he said with a deep chuckle.

"Joe," I sighed, trying to hide my smirk. "I'd still be distracted."

"Oh, I don't know," he said in a sing-songy voice as he pulled my chair away from the kitchen table.

He knelt in front of me and put his hands on my knees. He leaned up and touched his nose to mine.

"I'm pretty good," he whispered giving me chills.

"I'm not doubting that you're good, baby," I whispered. "I'm doubting myself."

He leaned back and looked into my eyes. "Y/N, you are going to be an amazing lawyer."

"What if I don't pass?" I whispered.

"You will," he said sternly. "You're going to pass the test and you're going to become a lawyer, a damn good one. And I will be by your side, every step of the way."

"I love you," I smiled. He reached up and caught a tear that I hadn't noticed.

Joe opened his mouth to respond but was cut off by a ding coming from my computer. We looked at each other with wide eyes.

"That could be it," he said as he nodded his head towards my laptop. My breath got stuck in my throat.

"I can't do this," I stuttered. "What if. . . Everything I worked for comes down to this test score. . . If I don't pass. . . I'm a failure."

"No," he said quickly. "You're not. Some people have to take the bar multiple times. It's normal."

He sat up and kissed me. When he broke it, he leaned his forehead against mine.

"Go ahead," he whispered. "You and I both know you're dying to check the email."

I leaned back, an embarrassed blush building. I took a shaky breath, hesitating. Joe stood up and turned my chair back towards my laptop. He started massaging my shoulders as I opened my email with shaking hands. When I read it, I had to reread it because I didn't believe it.

"So?" Joe asked, practically bouncing on his toes behind me. My answer came out barely a whisper.

"I passed."

"You what?" Joe gasped.

"I passed the bar," I said, a little louder. "I'm a lawyer."

Joe laughed excitedly as he pulled me to my feet and picked me up, spinning me around. The shock finally wore off when Joe put me back on my feet but didn't let me go. I wrapped my arms around his neck, a happy sob getting stuck in my throat.

"You did it, baby," he whispered. "I knew you would."
