"REGULUS ARCTURUS BLACK"

Walking up the path towards the owlery, I will admit I was taking my sweet time.

I did truly despise the idea of having to linger around her all day. Being seen with her was also not something I fancied.

Even the thought of Mother finding out that I had some sort of contact with a blood traitor sends a shiver up my spine.

Nonetheless, I'm not doing this out of my own free will, it's strictly for Evan.

And Merlin knows I want that son of a bitch to be happy.

Even though most of the time he is a pain in my arse.

I was planning on heading up to the owlery to send Mother a letter this weekend anyway, so I guess I can kill two birds with one stone.

Pun not intended.

As I approached the top of the stairs, I saw her sitting there, writing away.

I wonder who she's writing to. Not that I care, because I don't.

I'm just interested to know who would bother listening to her problems.

I passed by her, paying her no attention as I climbed the remaining few steps towards the entrance. I saw her glance up at me momentarily with a confused expression before turning back to her writing, acting as if she hadn't seen me.

I'll send Mother the letter first then I'll deal with her.

Even in September, the owlery was really rather cold and draughty. I looked up at the cylindrical stone room, searching for the family owl.

We had two of them. A great horned owl that mainly resided at home for Mothers use and a small screech owl that I was given at the start of my first year.

Owls were the only animals I tolerated. They were smart creatures, and they were free to come and go as they pleased.

I often wonder what freedom feels like.

Achilles spotted me before I did him and flew down, landing on an empty perch not far from me. He hooted as I walked up to him.

"Hey Hero." I greeted him, petting his beak. He hooted again.

I pulled out the letter from my book, handing it over to Achilles. He took it in his beak.

"Take this to Mother." I instructed.

With a final hoot, he took off, flying out through one of the many windows.

With a sigh, I watched him until he was just a speck in the distance and walked out of the owlery.

She was sitting in the same spot, still writing.

I headed towards the ledge, leaned my hands on it and opened my book.
