{ Arietta's POV }

We arrived at the cabin a little while ago. Since we've been here I've showered, and changed my clothes while Marek surprisingly cooked for me. This cabin is surprisingly cozy yet there's not a lot of stuff in it.
We ate in silence, and now we're staring at each other...like we're trying to figure each other out.

"Do you always travel by yourself?" He suddenly questions seeming a little on edge while waiting for my answer. I raised an eyebrow and say "I'll only answer your questions if you're gonna answer mine."

He looks at me dead in the eyes, and he tries to get inside of my head again.

"Stop doing that! You're just wasting your energy, and mine as well." I tell him as I block him out

He nods and says a hard "Fine."

"So we have a deal?" I question just to make sure

He nods while watching me like hawk.
I give a nod of my own then I answer his first question "I haven't always traveled alone."

He seems curious and even more on edge about my answer.

"Don't worry the person I was with wouldn't follow us here to your secret hide out. If that's what you are worried about..." I tell him

"How are you so sure?" He questions while staring at me intensely. "He's dead." I answer

For a second I saw him relax but then tense back up.

"He?" He questions in a hard tone

"Yes. Now it's my turn." I tell him

He seems a little annoyed but nods anyway.

"What are you?" I ask him

"Lycan." He answers while watching me carefully

I sniff the air and say "Interesting."

"What?" He questions

"I've never met a lycan before. Probably due to the fact they are extinct. Which I'm sure you know."
I tell him

He nods still watching me carefully

"So obviously I wouldn't know that you were one but I'd take a bet right now and say that you're far more than just a lycan." I tell him my theory

"How so?" He questions seeming a little amused

"Because I can practically smell the magic coming off of you. Meaning you aren't just any normal lycan."
I tell him with a smirk

He sends me a smirk and says "You are right."

"Oh I know." I reply meanwhile many other questions are floating around in my head

"Who was traveling with you?" He asks

"My guardian." I answer simply

"You had a guardian. Why?" He questions

"The same reason other people do. For protection. To be taught. Or because ones parents died or abandoned them. My reasons were all of the above."
I tell him honestly

He watches me for a second and I see his eyes flicker then he says "Your turn."

"Why did the oldest witch around help you?"
I question

"They wanted me to be their asset, instead of their enemy." He answers

"The council?" I question

He simply nods as a response

"And which one are you?" I ask carefully

"Both." He replies while staring at me

"Good to know." I say staring back at him thinking about why he could possibly be so important that even the council would possibly be afraid of.....and it's in that moment I begin to have hope that I'm not completely and utterly screwed.

"You're him." I say so soft that I barely even hear myself.. but I could tell Marek heard me.

He looked into my eyes and then I saw his lip twitch up as he says "You've heard of me then.."

My mate is him.

The one who took the hunters down.
The one people fear and yet worship.
The one blessed by the elders.

It's him.

Marek.
