Crickets were chirping throughout the entire forest, the sound of hooves by a horse adding to the sounds that could be heard. Dirt and mud laid all around the ground like it usually did, getting onto people's clothing, their shoes, their skin. The occasional neighs from the singular horse in the forest filled the air, adding to the chirping crickets and the hooves of the said horse. Green, brown, black, most colors were all around as it usually was in the forest whenever someone was to come out there.
On the only horse that could be seen in the woods, the only grounder that had seemed to live from the last fight against the sky people, Tristan, rode his animal as he held a rope in his hand that was turned into a fist. On the other end, being dragged behind the horse, Y/n Griffin dragged her feet as she walked in-between Finn Collins and a boy that had lived from the attack just like they had.
All three of the teenagers held cuts, mud, dirt, ash all over their face, blood adding to it. Their hair was a mess, sticking to their faces because of the sweat that was there. The occasional complaints of the boy on the other side of Y/n filled her eardrums, claiming he couldn't go much farther. After passing out when she left her sister's side, Y/n had woken up in the forest with Finn and her other fellow leader of the camp's faces staring down at her in concern. After her and Finn had been separated from the older boy, they were caught by Tristan. Just then, the boy beside Y/n fell flat on his stomach, making the grounder stop.
"On your feet." Tristan demands.
"I can't." The boy croaks out as Finn and Y/n try to get him up.
"He can't keep up." Finn calls to the grounder.
As they continued to try and get him up, Tristan mounted off his horse and stomped towards them just as Finn and Y/n were able to get the boy up. However, the grounder pulled on the rope, unsheathing his sword and despite Y/n and Finn's protest, he sliced the boy's throat, killing him almost instantly as blood poured out of the teenager. Feeling weak and tired, Y/n couldn't help but fall to her knees which Finn was quick to try and catch her, his hand wrapped around her arm securely.
"That's one. I lost three hundred." Tristan reminds.
Both looked up at him just as he began walking towards them. Finn was quick to bring Y/n up to her feet, only for both of them to stumble back to the ground, their wrists still tied together tightly. The teenagers continued to back up until they couldn't any longer, and what they didn't expect, was for Tristan to bring out a canteen full of water and toss it to them, hitting Finn right in the torso while doing so.
"Drink. You're both lucky. I need to keep one of you alive to talk to the commander. Two is just better, in case I need to kill one of you." Tristan states.
