Chapter Nine

After the words left my mouth, I grabbed onto the desk and forced myself up, ignoring the searing pain that went up and down my torso as I did so. Marcel held onto my forearm, making sure that I wouldn't collapse.

"I have to do it again," I said hoarsely, going to stand at the map, but Marcel stopped me.

"Woah, no way. I'm not letting you go through that a second time," he said sternly.

"Marcel, I have to," I said, biting my lip.

"No, you don't. We'll find another way!" He argued. Thierry quickly nodded in agreement, and I sighed in frustration.

"I'm not going to let him die!" I shouted. Marcel's eyes widened. He was definitely taken aback by my outburst. "Whether I go into his mind, or we search every church in the city, we are going to start looking! NOW!" I said, and they stayed silent. Until I realized something.

"What is it?" Thierry asked, seeing the almost stunned look on my face.

"St. Louis... They're in the cathedral!"

Shock and surprise crossed their faces.

"Of course! That's vampire territory, they thought we would never think to look there," Thierry said. "They thought we'd never even suspect it."

"Well, let's go," I said.

"Okay, I sent a couple other guys to look at the other churches, just in case we're wrong," Marcel said as he met Thierry and I outside of the compound.

We both nodded to him, then we were off. We jumped on the roof's, of the buildings so that the tourists wouldn't see us. We also went to the back entrance of the cathedral instead of the front.

"They know we're here," Marcel muttered. "But they're standing their ground. I can hear their hearts beating pretty damn fast."

"Just wait," I said, my voice sounding dark and vicious. "Their hearts will stop quite soon."

Thierry moved forwards to try and open the doors, which wouldn't budge. It seemed that they had locked all of the entrances, including the back exit that we were standing at.

"How cute," I smiled. "They think they can keep us out."

With a single wave of my hand, the door was blown off it's hinges, and was laying on the hardwood floor in front of us.

Thierry looked at me in shock, while Marcel chuckled a little at his reaction.

We walked on top of the door, moving through the back room of the church. We all walked very quietly, until I decided to take a chance.

I let out a low whistle, and Marcel and Thierry stared at me, their eyes widening. I smiled slightly, putting my finger to my lips to make sure they stayed silent. I could hear loud footsteps making their way over to the doorway, of which I stood beside. I could also smell the remnants of vampiric blood on whoever was walking towards us.

In other words, they had helped to torture Diego.

And I was going to make them pay for it.

The person was at the doorway, and the second that they took that one simple step, I yanked their body into the darkness that cloaked my figure. I sank my fangs into their neck, but instead of simply drinking from them, I dragged my teeth along their throat, making two large slits. The blood poured down his throat, and I sighed softly before shoving the person, who I had now found out was a man, forwards. He fell to the ground, limp and lifeless.

I wiped my mouth before coming out of the shadows, Marcel and Thierry blinking at me once before staring at each other in confusion, then looking back at me with shock for the third time tonight.

"What?" I asked, licking my lips a little. "I was thirsty."

I walked around the man, hearing the guys following behind me.

We entered the church, seeing the witches all standing in a line in front of the main entrance. I sighed, going down the steps and shaking my head. "Really, I thought you would have all left."

Agnes moved out of the line, narrowing her eyes at me. She was fully healed. One of the other witches must have helped her out. "You're going to pay for what you did to me," She hissed.

I sighed again, walking down the aisle. "Honestly, Agnes. You are quite childish, you know that? I would have thought that the only remaining elder would try to create peace. You started this, and now you are going to pay for it."

Not a single bit of fear was in her eyes. But she was aware of what I could do. She knew that I could break every body in her body as easily as I could break a toothpick. Surely she had something up her sleeve.

"I didn't start this, you did."

"Me?" I laughed, putting my hand on my chest and smirking. "You're the one that was the reason for ten innocent lives being lost. And when I punished you for it, you decided to ignore the fact that you practically murdered ten people."

"You murder people to stay alive!" she hissed.

I rolled my eyes. "You're one incompetent lady, aren't you? I kill those that are evil. Those that are far from innocent," I grinned. "In fact, that's why I killed your buddy in the back room. I didn't even drink that much from him. I just sliced opened his throat," I smirked. "With my teeth."

Marcel and Thierry stayed behind me, not acting yet but ready to move if something happened.

"We might not have fangs, but we have strength," Agnes said, and raised her hand, along with the other witches.

Marcel and Thierry both began to hyperventilate, then fell to their knees with their heads in their hands.

I was about to run forwards and kill Agnes and her witches, but other people beat me to it. It was more of Marcel's friends, his inner circle. They had flashed behind the witches, beginning to suck them dry.

Marcel suddenly appeared beside me, putting a hand on my shoulder. "Get Diego, go back to the compound. We'll meet you there," he said. "Make sure he's okay."

I nodded, and left him to the massacre that I knew he would make this meeting into.
