Chapter 4

Sia's POV:

An abrupt stop of the bus made me jerk forward and wake up in amusement.

A gasp leaving my mouth as the loud sound of thunder met my ears.

"Are you alright dear? "

I turned to look at the old lady next to me looking at me with worry

"Um yeah, w-why did we stop?" I whispered

"Oh there was a deer on the road. It's a path between forest and it's still dark outside. The driver must have missed in spotting him from a distance "

She explained

I let out a quiet 'oh' and nodded

I noticed her looking at me for some seconds and then she asked

" Are you also going to Boston? "

"If that's the last stop of this bus , then yeah" I answered

To which the old lady's eyes widened in surprise

"You're telling me you didn't know where this bus was going? " She asked , her voise mixed with worry and amusement

I looked down and nodded.

I wasn't used to talking to strangers. Not in such broken state atleast

"Oh dear! " She exclaimed as she covered my hands that were placed in my lap with her wrinkled ones

"I don't know what happened but it must be horrible if you are leaving everything behind! I am so sorry that you had to go through so much! " She exclaimed again as I saw her eyes getting moistened

What a beautiful soul is she. She's crying for someone she doesn't even know

" Oh no ma'am. Please don't cry. It's okay. It was what my destiny had planned for me " I said to her and gave a small smile

"Oh dear, I know it's not my place to ask you this but please tell me what happened? I wanna help you . Let me help you please" She said

I looked at her in amusement.

But remembering the events that took place in my life in the last 24 hours was enough for filling my eyes with fresh tears

Its hardly been 6 hours since I've known this woman. But all I could see in her eyes was honesty, worry and sadness

Anyways, She's just an old lady. She'll get over it as soon as she gets off the bus.

And in more logical way, what bad she'll do to me as bad as my husband has done to me?

I can't be weak anymore.

There's absolutely no one I can turn to.

So brushing away those thoughts from my head , I wiped my tears answered her question

"M-My husband kicked me out after I refused to accept his affair with my.. "

I couldn't complete the sentence. It felt like as if my tears were choking me. I didn't dare look at the lady's face though. The embarrassment was too much.I took a deep breath and continued

"with my baby sister.. My only family"
I finished and clutched my eyes shut in pain as I heard a gasp from the lady and her hold on my hands

"Oh my" She whispered

I shrugged before continuing

" Now all I have is those painful memories and this little nugget. My last hope " I said softly as my hands involuntarily caressed my stomach

"You're pregnant! " The lady gasped again as her hands covered her mouth in shock

I watched as her eyes couldn't contain her tears anymore and they started flowing down her cheek

"That's it! You're coming with me to my home . You'll stay with me " She declared while wiping her tears making my eyes widen

" What no! That'll be totally unnecessary ma'am! I really appreciate your concern
but I won't burden you with my misery "

I told her as I took her hands in mine and tried to calm her down

"How can your husband do that to you?! Oh my god! And your sister too! You are such a sweet lady! I can't let you go alone in this huge city dear. Especially when you have a life inside of you to take care of! You are hardly okay yourself! " She said , her tears covering her wrinkled face

That made me feel so bad for her. Poor lady was just going back home when she found my vulnerable self drowning in misery

"Ma'am I can't - " I tried to reason but she cut me off

" Oh no dear! I won't be able to forgive myself if I let you go in an unknown city while you are carrying a baby in such a broken state. Come with me to my home. You can work for me if you want! I live with my two kids. My daughter is a college student  and my son owns a law firm. I am sure he'll get you hired for something in his company. Please dear, don't say no to this old lady "

The look of hope she had in her old eyes. She doesn't even know me yet she was doing so much for me. What a beautiful soul is she. I just couldn't say no to it.

So I looked down and said quietly

"Okay"
