TW: mentions of alcohol

I look into the mirror and pull on my blouse. It looks good on me and paired with the black pants it kind of looks elegant and just right for Tonys party.
I prefer pants and a blouse over dresses because I feel more comfortable in them. Sometimes I wear dresses but not that often.

A knock on my door disturbs my thoughts and I turn around.
"Come in."
My mom walks in, wearing an elegant blouse and a black skirt. Her hair is done and she wears a little bit of make-up.
"You look stunning, mom." I compliment her.
She smiles back at me and comes closer, looking me up and down.
"You look beautiful yourself, malyschka."
"Thank you, mom."

She tugs my blouse in a little neater and smiles at me. She always does these little things that show me that she cares a lot about me. It doesn't matter if it's tugging on my cloth a little or writing little notes, wishing me a great day and putting them in my lunchbox or checking in if I'm okay when I have a lot of school work. It's her way of showing her love for me, besides telling me daily.
She always makes sure that I know how much I mean to her.
She's also very protective over me. Not just because I'm her only child but because she has a lot of enemies as Black Widow.

Even though I wasn't planed at all and more like an accident, she assures me that she never regretted having me for one second.
I know about her past and the Red Room, she's very honest with me so I know which dangers are out there.
She grew up in the Red Room but shortly before the 'graduation ceremony', how they call it, she was able to escape and was on the run for a very long time.
After quite a while she finally was save and went to a small bar to celebrate. That's were she meet my father. They got along great and she had a little bit too much to drink and they ended up having sex.

Nine months later I was born.
Like I said, she told me she never regretted having me but since that night she is even more careful with alcohol because now she can't allow herself to slip again.
She doesn't remember much of that night, not even my fathers name but that's alright, I don't need him because she is taking care of me greatly.
She said she learned after that night to never drink this much again because now she has to protect me, too. Even though she can handle quite a lot, she always makes sure to be aware of how much she drinks.

I look at myself in the mirror one last time and nod, silently agreeing to go to the party.
As I turn around again, my mom smiles at me and holds her arm out for me to take. I do so and we make our way to the party.
There are already a lot of guests there when we arrive and I can see Tony talking to some people.
"I'll go work at the bar. You stay in my sight. Okay, malyschka?"
I nod and watch her go to the bar.

At some point she started to enjoy mixing drinks at Tonys parties and talk to the people at the bar. I don't mind because from the bar she has a pretty good overview over the party and can keep an eye on me.
It might seem a little overprotective but I don't really mind since she let's me do whatever I want as long as it's not against any rules.

My eyes wander over the crowd of people and I spot Sam at the pool table.
I go over to him and greet him. We get along great and have a lot of fun together because he always cracks jokes and goofs around with me.
We play a few rounds of pool, which he mostly wins, before Steve takes him on a little walk to talk with him.
I slowly make my way over to the bar and sit down, watching mom mixing some drinks.

"Can I have one?" Her eyes shoot a short look in my direction and she raises an eyebrow.
"Alright. But I had to ask." I smirk a little and she turns around to me after she pours the drink into a glass and hands it to a man.
"Every time?" She rests her arms on the bar and leans towards me.
"Of course. One day you'll say 'yes'."
She rolls her eyes playfully. "The day you turn 21 I will."
I pout and she laughs a little, pouring me a glass of soda.

"Thanks." I take it and sip on it.
"Had fun playing pool with Sam?"
She brushes some hair strains out of my face.
I nod and tell her how I almost won more than once and she smiles at me. "One day you'll beat him, I'm sure."
I nod in agreement and take another sip.

"Have you seen uncle Clint?"
Her eyes search the crowd before she looks back at me. "He's over there with Bruce. Why?"
I put my now empty glass down and get up.
"I wanted to thank him for the bow he gave me."
Mom smiles and shakes her head a little. "He'll make you an archer before I can even blink twice."
"Yes, and then I can come on missions too and save the world."

She brushes over my y/h/c hair again. "We will see, malyschka."
"Nothing will happen to me, mom. You trained me in comeback since I was little and I can take down the enemies easily. And with a bow additionally, I'm practically invincible."
Proud swings in my voice and I look at her with big eyes.
She lets out a breath and her eyes soften a bit.
"I know you can, moya lyubov. But I don't want you to get hurt on any of those missions. You're still my little baby and I want to protect you."

A small part of me wants to protest and tell her that I'm not that small anymore, I'm almost 17 but I can't because I know she doesn't mean it in a bad way.
She's just scared of losing me because I'm her only child.
I nod and smile at her. She kisses my forehead.
"Now go and thank Clint for the bow and tell him to greet Laura for me."
"Will do."
And with that I'm crossing the room, heading towards my uncle.
