Chapter 83

Pranee could see Ubol dressed head to toe in extravagant blue fabrics and gold accessories amid the chaos.

The throne room was like a painting of the end of the world. People screaming, some crying, and others demanded why the palace had done a poor job with security. Even though their attire matched the elegance of gods,

Some brave men had taken it upon themselves to join the fight against the underpowered gang while others fled out the doors, adding to the confusion.

Kiet had managed to pin down a group of weaponless yet aggressive men with a net despite being injured earlier. It was like the new break out of battle had reinvigorated him and a new flame was lit from within him. Anuman slicked parts of the floor with water, making it harder to run. Shashi, on the other hand, was taking the high ground and slamming into the heads of whoever had the misfortune of crossing their path.

Some guards have taken to defending the king but seemed confused about why the high wizards weren't present. One had called out for a wizard for medical attention but most of them had their hands tied, dealing with the hectic trio.

Pranee herself had taken to the ground, crawling past the guards as best as she could. Despite them just being together not too long ago earlier, she had lost track of where Tanet had gone. No doubt he was going after Ritthirong but she couldn't see where that one had gone either.

She reached the stage, just barely dodging a random staff that hurled towards her and she saw that Ubol was already working on her binds, resorting to chewing on the rope with feral anger in her eyes. She grabbed the staff greedily and waved to get Ubol's attention.

"Ubol!" She tossed the staff to the unwed bride and Ubol managed to catch it.

Pranee noticed the porcelain conch set aside on the ground in front of the table and grabbed it. She hesitated for a moment but smashed it to the ground. Sharp edges were now exposed by the broken conch and she grabbed the largest piece. She was about to go help free Ubol when a strong hand grabbed the back of her neck.

A familiar voice came from behind her. "Nong, I didn't think you would've come uninvited like this."

There was another tug and Pranee sucked in the air from between her teeth. She tried to keep a brave face and attempted to stare at her half-brother in the eye. "I've found myself in a lot of situations where I wasn't welcomed."

"Oh? Is that your new title?" Ritthirong mused. "The uninvited princess?"

"Get your hands off my baby sister!" Tanet yelled at the top of his lungs.

Pranee was thrown to the ground and her palms were pressed against the cold marble tiles.

"Your baby sister?" She heard Ritthirong say with distaste. "You act as if we aren't brothers."

"You aren't when you killed our parents in cold blood."

Pranee turned around just in time to see rage flare in the king's eyes. Anger wasn't an uncommon look on him but he looked even more unhinged at the moment. Maybe it was because he was dressed more extravagantly with the gold and blue garb and excessive accessories but all she could do was duck for cover as Tanet threw a sword he found on the ground.

How Ritthirong blocked it, surprised Pranee the most.

A staff had appeared in his hand and he swatted the sword away. It didn't appear out of thin air like how Ubol and Anuman summoned their staff but similar to how Kiet and Shashi's staffs appeared. Flying through the air from the location the staff was sitting in which also didn't require any verbal commands.

Tanet scrambled to find another weapon and the sound of the fighting grew louder in Pranee's ears.

"You made your staff linked to you," Pranee hissed.

Ritthirong had a wild smile. "I didn't think you would know so much about magic but I shouldn't be surprised since it was always your special interest."

"You cast me out for doing magic yet you're here flaunting your own magic practices?!" Anger surged through the princess. When Ubol told her about the king learning magic, she didn't fully believe it at first but seeing it in person triggered a bigger emotional response.

"I'm the king and I can do what I want," he scowled. "It's my duty to rule the kingdom and shape it into the best it can be. If using magic will help me fulfill that duty then I'll do what I need to do."

He raised his staff and the air crackled in response to his anger.

Instead of cowering, Pranee stood up in response. She was ready to fight him.
