I am one word, fucked.

"I had been shot —" Val continues, "I looked back through my scope, and Andino was gone, I looked around and spotted you on the roof across from me. You got up, dismantled your sniper, and left the roof in a hurry. I saw your face though."

"Val —" I start, my hand moving towards her, she holds her hand up, stopping me.

"Xavier, you and I both know the business we're in. You're a mercenary, you had a job. When a job is assigned, you do it. No questions asked I know. You were supposed to kill me that night, weren't you?" She shoves me over to make some room on the bed and sits beside me, our shoulders touching.

"Yes, you were my assignment that night. It was big money considering who you were, everyone knows Diavola. The person who hired me was the man you were about to shoot, I saved his life and now I wish I never did." I explain cautiously.

She hums and leans her head on my shoulder, "so why didn't you kill me?" She whispers.

"I heard rumors about how all the kills you've made are people who well and truly deserved it, never an innocent. I wasn't like that, I was greedy. I've killed innocents before, in my mafia life and my mercenary life. I couldn't pull the trigger because I respected you too much I guess."

"Liar." She whispers, making me laugh out loud.

"Honestly, I just didn't want to be a merc anymore. My father made me train hard to become one of the best, he never wanted me to be involved within his mafia so he thought me becoming a mercenary was a better option."

"Your not in that life anymore?"

"No, I left it that night I didn't kill you." I smile and lay my head on top of hers, that's resting on my shoulder.

"I guess I should say thanks for not killing me." She laughs.

I scoff, "no need to thank me, I do wish I didn't shoot you though, sorry about that."

She waves a dismissive hand scoffing, "please I'm proud."

I frown, "proud? That, I was not expecting. Why?"

"Because Xavier it's not often someone gets the drop on me and you did therefore I'm proud." She looks up at me and smiles.

Jesus, I shot the girl and she's proud of me? I've been honest to god have never met anyone like her.

"I won't avoid you anymore Val, I'm sorry I have. It's just with everything going on, a lot has been on my mind and you've been busy. So we haven't had a chance."

"That's fine," she sighs, "I'm glad I was able to sneak in tonight and chat, it's always good to get it all out. You know I'm always here to talk right? I'm never too busy for family Xav and you're family."

Fuck, I'm going to cry.

I've never really had a family before, I mean yeah I had my parents but my dad is an asshole and my mother is a follower. They were never there for me, it was all the nannies they hired. Each birthday went by and not even a happy birthday passed their lips as I grew up.
