Chapter 6: Learning The ropes

I did my best to wipe my tears and after making my way to the Daycare doors I stood there for a bit. Trying to calm down. I was mad at myself for not speaking up, mad at that random lady who I knew nothing about. I took a deep breathe and opened the doors.

"Y/n?" I heard someone call my name.

(New POV: Sun) 
I heard the Daycare doors open and I looked up with excitement, Y/n didn't take long to get back. But when I looked at y/n they were covering their face slightly with the Daycare snack box, their eyes looked red and a bit puffy. 'Were they crying?' I wondered.
"Y/n? You look sad. What's wrong sunshine?" I paused at the accidental nickname I gave them. I've been calling y/n 'sunshine' to myself for a while. It just seemed to fit them better, 'I didn't think I would actually call them that OUT LOUD!' I yelled at myself. I was pulled away from my thoughts by a small sniffle.

"It's... Nothing, don't worry" They said as they walked past me.

I watched as y/n solemnly restocked the snacks under the security desk. I walked over to y/n slowly, they seemed deep in thought. I touched y/n shoulder with one hand and my other stopped y/n from restocking the snacks. 

We stayed like that until y/n spoke up.

"I went to the kitchen and this lady with short brown hair parted down the middle stopped me. She was wearing a chefs outfit and she was holding the snack box and we got into a little argument..." They mumbled as they continued to put snacks away, still holding my hand.

'Short brown hair parted in the- oh...'

"Carley..." I said gritting my teeth.

Y/n looked up at me. "Carley?" They asked. 
"Yeah, Carley, she thinks she all that. Like she's the main character and will do anything to be the center of attention. Even as far as butting into peoples conversations. She has a weird way of 'testing' new employees. I assumed she saw you going for the Daycare snacks and got confused since, I usually do it." I explained.

Y/n said nothing as they continued stocking the shelves. 'I'm getting increasingly more worried for y/n...'

I rubbed y/n's back and waited until they were ready to talk to me, which didn't take that long.

"She... She kept insulting me, saying I was selfish and other stuff. I don't know, I'd just rather forget about it." Y/n finally said.

I sat down by y/n, letting go of their hands and back.

"If it makes you feel better sunshine," I started, pausing slightly but awkwardly continued after the nickname "I can start going for the Daycare snacks if it makes you feel better?" I asked.

Y/n shook their head.

"I can handle it now that I know who that was and what she's like. It just took me by surprise is all." They said taking a deep breath.

I hummed in response and got up. I looked at the time with the Daycare clock. '4pm' 

"Once you're done I have to show you how to sign in and do rollcall on the computer. Moon drop has a computer in the Nursery in case a parent picks up their kid mid-nap time. It's pretty neat. Would that help get your mind off things?" I said with a soft smile.

This seemed to cheer y/n up as they got up and put the box with extra snacks in a cabinet. They stood up and nodded eagerly.   

(POV Y/n)

I stood up feeling better at the idea of learning how to do roll call on the computer. 

Sunny turned the computer on and signed into an account. The account username and password were on a sticky note on the computer because Sun kept forgetting. 

Sun pointed at what I needed to click and what I needed to write. Eventually after a few minutes the kids started coming in one by one. Moon made sure to tell us who left.

"A few kids left because their parents came. I'd say 6 total kids left. Their names are already marked off." Moon said.

Moon paused before turning, making sure to look at me, analyzing me. I stared back at him.

'Are my eyes still red?' I wondered

"Alright, thanks Moony!" Sun said to Moon that seemed to pull him from the intense staring match we had. Moon walked out mumbling something about how he wished I could help clean up the Nursery.

Sun told me to go give snacks to the kids and once I was done with that he would show me how to put in names.

I gave out the snacks, we mostly had granola bars, Fizzy Faz, el chips, some vegtables and fruits, and pizza. Not too much so the children's tummies didn't get upset. I had almost finished, I just had to get three more kids their snacks. I made my way to Ryn, Juan, and someone new. While I was giving Ryn her snack option I took the chance to ask about the new kid.

"Who's your new friend?" I asked sweetly.

"Thats stinky! Stinky is weird..." Juan blurted out while he picked his snack.

"Am not!" Said the kid nicknamed Stinky.

I gave out a tired sigh as the kids continued arguing. I was done handing out the snacks and made my way to Sun.

"All done?" he asked.

"Yep!" I answered.

Sun gestured me to come over to him and I did. he grabbed my hands and put my right hand on the mouse. He stood behind me crouching slightly so he could see the screen.

"So what you have to do is enter the kids name here and write what time they arrived, and when they leave you write when they leave. We have a few regulars like the ball pit organizer and a few other trouble makers" Sun said while laughing.

I couldn't focus at all though, he was so close and whenever he spoke I could feel his breath behind my neck. He moved my hand showed me how to bring up the names for the regulars by clicking a small arrow in the computer. A few new kids were here today so we asked for their names. Sun explained to me since they all have gotten a Daycare pass we already knew their information, it was a security measure to make sure no kids were stolen or lost. 

"All emergency information is actually in another file. Riiight here!" Sun said while moving my hand to a drop box. It displayed every kid I had just put down their names in, and a few other that left. Each had emergency contact information, allergy listings, ect. 

"This is pretty cool!" I said.

Sun laughed at my enthusiasm.

"thanks for showing me this Sunny-" I paused.

'Did I just...'

"O-oh it's no big deal ahah eheh I had to show you since it's your duty as the manager and you have to do... manager duties..." Sunny said awkwardly. 

After we finished putting all the names down and double checking all kids were accounted for we turned the computer off so no kids could access it. I stood up to clean the kids mess after snack time but tripped on Sunny's foot. I expected to hit the hard floor but instead I was caught in someone's arms.

I look up to see Sun caught me, he placed on hand behind my waist and one on the back of my head. Sun's face was inches away from mine. My face turned bright red in an instant and so did his. 

"Ahem...?" Someone cleared their throat beside us.

I looked up to see-
