God, I hate hiking.
We were in the middle of a camping activity, trying to find a nice clearing at the bottom of the ravine nearby to work on making a fire in. I didn't want to go any farther into the campsite- it was a little creepy.
Jinyoung and Hyunsuk were bounding happily ahead, but I couldn't be bother to speed up and catch up, so I stayed huffing and puffing on my own. God, going back up would be terrible.
"Yonghee!"
Though I hadn't heard it in a while, I would've recognized the voice anywhere. There, ahead of me, was Areum.
"Hi." She quickly fell into step with me, pigtails bouncing as she made her way down. We weren't exactly last, but it wasn't like we were up ahead of everyone.
"There seems to be something on your mind." She cocked her head to the side, eyes wider than normal as she questioned me.
I felt like a lab subject under her gaze. "Um, not really. I just honestly don't like hiking."
She smiled, nodding and taking my answer. "You know, I used to hate hiking too. There was a time when I was, like, seven that my dad decided that we should go on a family trip."
Sadly, I wasn't able to hear the rest of her story as Sunghoon seemed to appear out of thin air, swooping Areum up and taking her away. I could've sworn he was talking to his other friends. Who were they? Jay? Jake? Whatever, I don't care.
Sometimes, I hate how much of a social butterfly Areum is. She moves from one person to the next. And when you're someone as quiet as me, that doesn't really work in your favour.
Instead of doing anything, I looked down at my feet. I had moved my eyes just in time to avoid tripping over a branch. Maybe it was okay that Areum wasn't with me.
Maybe Sunghoon deserves her more.
